I watch Dallas and how they depended on Dirk early in the series, but their role guys really stepped up.
JJ, Stevenson (huge), Terry, and even Kidd can stroke a jumper.
Reminds me of how Orlando played a couple of years ago surrounding Dwight with shooters.
You saw what Chicago needed....if they had Joe, they would have a nice starting 5. But...
Joe, Kirk and maybe Jamal.....that's not enough.
It may take moving Josh to fill the holes we have...Al and Joe aren't going anywhere.
What team could give us a 2 for 1 where we get better in 2 roles and it costs us just one athlete?
Want ad: who needs a 'PF' tat is playing the 3 that could use some guidance?

Horford should be traded before Josh. because what Al brings to the table can be replaced easier than rplacing what Josh Smith brings

Let me know when Josh proves he's capable or averaging 9rpg and can hit a jumper consistently like Al Horford.

OK we all know Smith is a '3' and Al is a '4'
Smith averages 8 rpg in 34 minutes for his career.
"can hit a jumper consistently like Al Horford."?? Al cannot create his own jumpshots 'consistently'. All you need is an energy defender with length and he becomes an average player.
Needless to say we have faced energy defenders in the playoffs 4 straight years.
Horford is easily crowded and can't put the ball on the floor like a forward should. His 'consistent' jumpers are very replaceable. As is Joe's points and assists that come at the cost of high USGrt%.
Smith is not easily repaceable. Look at the Gerald Wallace trade, not likely one will give you 2 proven players (1 being a dominant center) for a 6'8 slasher playing the 4.
Lets say we get Chris Kaman for Smith. You get a mediocre defender and put more pressure on Marvin to draw double teams. Not happening.
I still maintain we should go for this Bogut-Gooden-Sanders-Salmons + Horford-Hinrich-Williams trade, and go all in while we still have Josh under contract.

P.S. we've been playing lineups with nothing but jump shooters for years.

The Horford/Smith debate is still the dumbest argument on the board because both are good players on good contracts.
I've been saying this for the longest....but the difference between the Hawks and the Mavs is that we would have never paid for a coach like Carlisle or spent the money they did when aquiring Marion(last season)or Chandler(this season). Cuban sees a problem and goes the extra mile to fix it even if it's to his own detriment(Raef Lafrentz,Brendon Haywood, etc)The Hawks don't have that benefit which is why our "model" is 4 core players+throwing crap against the wall & hoping it sticks.

Marco Belinelli can be a cheaper shooter over Crawford. Add Reggie Williams as well and it could give us some more fire power and decent bench players. Vlad Radmonovich could be a decent back up 3 with range. Something centered around Marvin for Bargnani would be effective for us and allow us to use MLE money on some of the mentioned above..

^Yeah, THAT'LL boost our outside shooting.
My mother told me, she said, "Elwood, to make it in this world you either have to be oh, so clever or oh, so pleasant." Well, for years I was clever; I recommend pleasant.

The advantage of DAL is that even if they only had 3 guys, they are guys who don't eat and keep the ball for 20 seconds, like Joe and Jamal can do.
That's one of the reason I think Cuban prefers having Terry and Haywood for less money than Joe.
I don't see why I he would trade for Joe while Terry is a perfect fit, and Haywood help them in case of a injury of Chandler, at least until they are sure Mahinmi can play more minutes.
Would DAL have been better with Joe ?
No because he would have kill the team ball movement.
Bibby was a good spot up shooter here, to bad we were not able to bring him back once cut.
And he was playing team defense, at least trying and more than Jamal.
If we can't trade Joe, then we should try to trade Jamal.
We don't have money, but have rights on him, so better try to do a sign-and-trade and get something that fit the team, instead of keeping him.

Re: We need more shooters
Is there a rule where you can't sign a player above the luxury tax just to trade him without the luxury penalty? If you move him for someone, you are probably going to exceed the luxury tax as well. Jamal will get more per year than we can give him w/o exceeding the cap.

Re: We need more shooters
I am not saying it would not push over the tax, just that being under, or over, I prefer this money on someone else than Jamal. So if we re-sign him and start to pay tax because of that, we are making another really bad move.
If we trade him, don't forget that we can trade him with another player, and get less than what we send.
We can also work a trade with team having room to absorb part of the difference, with only one team or several teams like ORL did with Turkoglu to TOR.

Miller has a year left. Belli is an RFA, and Wilkins-Parker-Wilcox are about equal to shopping for D league guys.
Iggy is a 14 ppg wing paid $14-16 mill.....his $ hit cancels out much of what's good. real life...worth Hinrich,a pick and cap fill.

Re: We need more shooters
Dallas didn't go from a pretender to a champion by adding shooters, they did it by adding guys who can play defense.
Dallas added Chandler, Marion, and Kidd.... all three guys can play serious defense and can't shoot a lick.
