Samuel Dalembert - Per Hoopshype

Post#1 » by We-Are-Lasers » Tue Jun 14, 2011 7:54 pm

One of the Heat’s top offseason priorities will be adding a veteran center, and Miami has strong interest in Sacramento free agent Samuel Dalembert. But even if the midlevel exception remains part of the new labor deal (which is undetermined), the Heat knows other teams can offer Dalembert more and would not be surprised if he signs elsewhere.

As for Dalembert, the Heat will have competition from the Knicks, the Kings and several others. The 6-11 Dalembert — who averaged 8.1 points, 8.2 rebounds and 1.6 blocks in 24 minutes per game this season — expressed strong interest in the Heat during a March visit to Miami. But he was vague at a Heat playoff game last month. “I haven’t given it thought,” he said of his plans. But the Heat meets at least two of his criteria: “I want to play for a team that can win a championship. And a team that can run the fast break. Miami has a good one.”

“We’ll see,” he said, adding he would “like to be in a place that appreciates me.” Dalembert has a home in Boca Raton and that could work in the Heat’s favor, but only if Miami can make a competitive offer. He has traveled with the Heat on earthquake relief missions to Haiti.

Interesting... I think he might come here if we keep MLE.

We can pay him in sunshine and fruity cocktails. Who else can claim that?

Maybe Pat can pull some strings and land him a cameo in the next Bad Boys movie or an episode of Dexter.

I heard Dalembert is a big Burn Notice fan.

Seriously though, he's probably our most realistic option.

I don't think he is a "realistic" option.

Would be awesome if we could get him though, but I'm not going to hold my breath.
Your emotions fuel the narratives that you create. You see what you want to see. You believe what you want to believe. You ascribe meaning when it is not there. You create significance when it is not present.

I disagree, he's one of our more realistic options, as opposed to Nene, Gasol, Jordan etc.

I am not excited anymore about any more signings. I would like to see someone added to our coaching staff to help with our offense creation and execution, that would benefit/help us the most.

Disagree. It's totally realistic.

He wants to play to a contender. Knicks and Sacramento will never be contenders, so you can count them out.

Lakers, Mavs, OKC, Bulls, all of them already have good Centers and other priorities.

There's no contender with cap space to give him more than MLE. Sacramento won't give him a lot to be a backup Center, I think, and re-signing Kings would mean giving up any chance to get a Ring.

So, in the end, it comes to NYK x Miami offering MLE, with Miami being the only contender.

I partly agree with you, but having a better team doesn't hurt.

Games 2 and 4 Heat wasn't dominated. We just lost because of small details. Winning one of those games would mean opening a 3-1 lead.

So there's a lot of problems with our aproach, but being better is always good.

With the lack of quality centers in the league a player like Dalembert will be able to command more than the MLE. I wouldn't be shocked to see him use the Heat to get himself a bigger contract like Mo Williams did. It is the financially smart move to make. I'm not getting my hopes up.

god i hope he wants a ring bad enough to leave millions on the table. with him as center and the maturation of chalmers (if re-signed) we'll have a very, VERY, good starting lineup all around. that plus the fact the UD and miller will be off the bench... not getting to ahead of myself... just hoping.

Having a better team is the same as having a better system, we choose to mostly think we need a new player. Of course I know we need a center, but I believe with the exact same roster, if we can replay any of our loses, especially game 2, with a different or modified approach/system, we have a better chance to win.

But I understand your point

Leaving money on the table is getting old, I wouldn't do it, UD, Miller, Lebron, Wade, Bosh all left money on the table, sometimes that dog won't hunt no mo(more)

At the end of the day, it depends on what he wants. Unlike Mo Williams, Sammy-D has already had a huge contract but was never really part of a contender. Do you want to live in Miami, still earn 25 million over 5 years (or whatever the new CBA will present us) and win some championships, or at least have a great shot at it, or do you want to join a mediocre team and have another big payday?

Don't see why he isn't in a Heat uniform next season (semi-serious)
Stop being so disrespectful.

Sammy D expressed his frustration with the fact that the Kings were in rebuilding mode earlier in the season. I don't see him changing his mind and spending the remainder of his NBA career on a team that wouldn't provide the same opportunities to succeed as ours.

prepare for us to have no exceptions at all, NO MLE, no LLE. this new CBA is going to force Riley and Andy E. to be even MORE creative then they were to obtain the Big 3 to get real QUALITY talent to fill out the C and PG spots (positions that tradiotionally teams overpay for)
