Prince Fielder more than Albert Pujols?

Post#1 » by number15 » Wed Jun 15, 2011 2:18 am

Jays target shot down.

Well for all u Jays fans looking for AA to target Prince Fielder, I got some bad news.... apprently he is suppose to get paid more than ANYONE in this FA class, even more than Albert Pujols.

Im hearing 8 years 200 Million, considering his age and the rate he is producing at now.

I think the Jays will stay away from him because of the price..... as they should because someone is gonna regret that deal big time.

*** Abert Pujols is said to be somewhere less than Fielder...... he will NOT get 300 million especially with Boston and NYY set at 1st base. They wont pay so much for a DH

well firstly i dont think anyone is surprised at such a number for fielder,

if the jays covet adding fielder at that cost they will...

no guarantee fielder will net 200m simply due to a lack of bidders.

"You're hearing" = "you read Jeff Passan's latest column".

And if you read it thoroughly, you'd see that Fielder isn't expected to make more than Pujols on an annual basis, and you'll also note that the source is an agent...and then you'd note that the dollar figures and lengths of contracts that he suggests for the nine players are pretty generous (as tends to be the case when your job is to raise the market). Not saying that Fielder doesn't get 8 years, $200m, but it's hardly etched in stone.

ha, that was my first thought also

My second was, who cares?

If this team is serious about eventually having a 100+ million payroll, then why shouldn't we pay elite money for an elite hitter

Especially if you believe that the Jose we are seeing now is generally what we will get over the next couple of years... we should be pairing him with an elite bat like Fielder. If the Lind we seeing now, much like the Lind up until last season, is who we will have going forward then you would have three very dangerous bats in the middle of the lineup, with Bautista being an extreme bargain and Lind being at minimum fair value

If this team is going to be a serious player in the free agent market, I want it on bats... We are building enough depth in the arms department that we should be focusing free agent spending on filling positional needs, and another elite bat is our biggest need
