This. There's nothing racist about this article, nothing at all. It just states that US basketball is all about superstars, while European basketball is about the team, and the team game won over the individual stardom.

It's funny how the article fails to mention any of Dirk's teammates. Can Deshawn Stevenson get a mention? He won as well but I guess he got defeated also because he's ghetto.

Is the German newspaper being accurate when they say "Dirk Defeats Ghetto Basketball"? No. But are they being racist when they make that same statement?

Unless you have some preconceived notion that to be "ghetto" you must be part of a specific race (in which case it is arguable that you are the one being racist), I would argue that the answer to that question is also no. The German newspaper is not being racist, they are being insensitive given Germany's not so illustrious history with the term, but racist? Not at all.

That is NOT the opinion of the author of the german article, but was written by foxsports.com columnist Bill Reiter. The german author Peter Schelling is merely taking that and translated it into german.

It's obviously racist. I mean, nothing about Chris Bosh, nor Dwyane Wade screams "ghetto" to me. They're obviously making sweeping generalizations about the players on the Heat based on their skin color.

You understand german? And the article refers to the style (baggy pants (those schlabberige pants someone mentioned), when he talks about "ghetto"-style", it means the clothes, the music and they way people are acting in the rap-scene. The NBA made an effort to introduce a dress code in order to get rid of that image. The terms also refers to streetball, in which the individual has even a bigger impact. Unlike college basketball or the FIBA style in which the team game is the more important thing. That is meant with the term "ghetto basketball", not the skin color per se.

That isn't racist, and the author even said that it is sad that the skin color makes a difference how the majority of the US-AMERICAN people perceive the NBA players. That is not the opinion of the author that the skin color makes the difference.

But those players wear helmets and uniforms that mostly mask their racial origins. Add to that the fact that the premier position (QB) is mostly white and the problem is not nearly so severe.

He does ave a point. Most, if not all marquee players in the NBA are black. The most important player on a football field is the quarterback and they're historically white.
