Meanwhile, Carp just continues to hit.

TUCSON, Ariz. — Mike Carp hit two home runs, including a grand slam, and drove in seven runs as the Tacoma Rainiers continued to swing big bats and crushed the Tucson Padres 24-3 in a Pacific Coast League game Monday night.

Carp was 4 for 6 with 10 total bases. He hit a solo shot in the second and his grand slam in the ninth capped Tacoma's season-high outburst.

***************************************

Carp, who was named the PCL Player of the Week, has a 22-game hitting streak. In his past eight games, he is 21 for 39 (.538) with six home runs, 18 RBI and 17 runs scored.

I'm not sure what the team would do with him at this point anyway though; Halman's certainly going to remain in the starting lineup until he cools off, and LF seemed like the only place you could really put Carp. I don't think you replace Cust at DH right now as Cust hit .276/.375/.447 line last month...the power's still not really there for Cust but he's been hitting and getting on base.

They couldn't have gotten a companion fare for Ackley to get to Chicago along with Carp.

I'm right on board with the now popular theory that they are, essentially, waiting for Peguero to give them a reason to send him down. Hard to send him down when he just had a couple HR and got two hits last night. Once Peguero struggles a bit, it might be Ackley time.

I'd just as soon platoon Kennedy and Rodriquez at 3rd and cut Figgins loose. The sooner that Ackley gets in the lineup the sooner he contributes to the effort.

Problem is...how do you cut Figgins loose? There was an article pondering the same question on Fangraphs yesterday. He still has two years/$20 million left on that contract after this season. Do you just eat that entire amount and DFA him this early? Trade him for a similarly bad contract?

Playing Kennedy at 3B w/ Rodriguez is a fine idea as far as I'm concerned for the time being, but it still doesn't solve the Figgins problem.

I just sit Figgins on the bench. Simple as that. Maybe keep him there as insurance in case someone gets hurt, but no other team wants his sorry ass. He's the worst player in the league. Fact. FACT.

Sorry I just really despise Figgins. My gf gets mad at me because I go on and on in disgust.

I'd just sit him too and on the outside chance someone would want him i'd pay the plane fare to get rid of him. I cant see the money argument to be honest. You have to pay him and pay Ackley, i'd rather the latter in the lineup.

On a complete sidenote i wonder if Alex Liddi doing well in his first year at AAA kept the Ms from drafting a third baseman in the draft (Rendon).

That's probably how I would be inclined to handle the situation at this point. Figgins has experience as a utility infielder anyway. He'd get his chance to earn the starting position back but he'd have to prove he deserves to be there.

The money argument is definitely a valid consideration when it comes to the issue of releasing him however. The front office gave Milton Bradley every last chance to succeed even when he was in the final year of a bad contract, and only released him when it was clear there was no chance of getting a return on their investment and that his personality made such exercise one of futility. I can't see them simply cutting Figgins and eating 2.5 years of costs a mere year and a half after deeming him worthy of a $40 million investment.

My guess is any necessary roster move will involve brining Ackley up, short of something happening to a catcher. At this point i think i'd probably move or release Jack Wilson, he isnt really part of their plans and i'd be inclined to do it now.

Ackley has been hitless i believe since they brought Carp up. It probably means nothing but at some point you have to wonder if you risk alienating the player. Ordinarily you dont really care about pissing off a prospect but when you're talking a potential all star i think it's relevant.

I'm semi-surprised he isn't already a San Francisco Giant by now.

A friend of mine is a huge Giants nut, and I said the same thing to him after hearing about Sanchez. I can't imagine a conversation hasn't taken place, I wonder what we'd ask. Can't be too much.

Per Wiretap

Mariners prospect Dustin Ackley will make his Major League debut with the team on Friday.

Seattle plans to recall the 2009 first-round Draft choice from Triple-A Tacoma on Thursday.

The Mariners are off on Thursday, so the second baseman will debut on Friday against the Phillies at Safeco Field.

"We just felt it was time," general manager Jack Zduriencik said. "We'd talked about some time in June we thought he'd be ready. In discussion with the coaches down there, they all felt this is the time. He's been swinging the bat well. So here it is. He'll be here Friday and we'll look forward to his contributions."

And, seconds later, Ackley's fantasy rep:
