Bobcats in Raliegh Market

Post#1 » by bobcats3wallace » Sun Jun 19, 2011 6:17 pm

I will be moving to Raleigh in the near future and have a question for those already residing there. Are the bobcats available on league pass in Raleigh or are they blacked out? Moving from Charlotte where I can watch every game without a problem I am trying to avoid Bobcats withdraw! Thanks in advance!

from what others have said the bobcats games are only available via cable through the special events channel which is somewhat unpredictable. i do not believe you can watch games via league pass as that is part of the blackout area for league pass games. you are also out of the radius for satellite. your only hope is the local cable provided, whether or not they pay the fees to fox sports to show the games. im sure walt and others can elaborate.

I had a feeling that was the case. That's pathetic man. As long as this is the situation just 3 hours away from Charlotte the Bobcats will NEVER grow. Why does the league blackout local markets anyway? To encourage the people to go to games?

I live in Durham, and as stated all Bobcats games are blacked out except for the games on Fox Sports South Special Events Channel 520 in Durham. This is usually good for about 30 games per season. FYI I don't know if you know, but the Cats are set to play the Heat at the RBC center Oct. 19. See you there LSTS.

However with the Cats that's not the problem here. In this area college basketball rules, so the potential fan base here is only going to hit a growth spurt when the team starts to win. Winning is the cure for fan base apathy. Then the fairweather fans who are focused on Carolina and Duke will perk up.

my understanding is the league blacks out league pass games in markets where the local team has their games made available to the local cable provider (regardless of whether or not that provider decides to pay to show the games). in the case with the bobcats games are made available to every cable provider in north and south carolina via the fox sports network. its up to each individual cable provider to decide to buy the rights to show the games. its a stupid rule. league pass should be made available in the markets where the local cable company decides to not broadcast the games. its really hard to determine who to blame here. is it the bobcats, the cable companies or the nba. but there has to be a better solution for the nba.

satellite isnt much better. i think they only make games available to those who live within a certain radius of the home team. i think its something like 90 miles around charlotte. which excludes the raleigh area.

I'm enrolling in NC State University, so i'll be right outside downtown in the University area. Seems as though I will have to forgo my watching Bobcats game's every chance I could on TV. I'll be there at the RBC center for the preseason game for sure though.

Sorry about that. I'm from the western part of NC originally. You can tell by my reading comprehension skills.

Us hicks used to complain about Raleigh AND Charlotte taking ALL of our education money.

i live in Raleigh for the next few weeks until I move up to Tarana, Worst Case Ontario, Canuckistan. good luck finding Bobcats games on television. the situation is a pathetic joke and at some point I gave up, cancelled cable TV, and started looking exclusively for clandestine means for watching the games.

I live between (sort of) Raleigh and Charlotte near Greensboro and I get practically every game on Directv's Fox Sports South and Fox Sports Carolinas.

You can't watch the Bobcats on basic cable in Raleigh. Also, whatever satellite company it is that all the bars that I go to use has the games blacked out as well. Alternatives I know of: ATT U Verse, TWC.

That said, maybe things will be different when the season starts.
