I said my bit. I'm not arguing it. I'm just sending out a warning shot that we still need a franchise player and ought to plan for that.

Good point. I remember when Wall was first interviewed by local media and he stressed that his first priority was being known for John Wall version of the Dougie.

By the way, I really appreciate you putting up even short posts given how busy you are. It says a lot about you that even with your hectic life, you'll give back to the little people like us.

I don't want to ramble because I know you're swamped. Just write back when you can. I'll be waiting!!

I've never heard John say a single thing about wanting to be known for anything but winning basketball games.

John played with great intensity on the court. It's going to take more than a bad pitch in a sport he may never have played to convince me he doesn't have the "eye of the tiger." Roflz, man.

That's exactly what I said, Fish. I was calling you a little person.

I meant I can't spend all Summer, post after post, arguing that Blatche doesn't have the right mentality, again... It's funny that the one thing this board and this org never seem to take into account is mentality -- even though that's been this franchise's downfall for over two decades.

My last post on the subject.

Eric Maynor is the worst basketball player I've ever seen.

Ideally, a superstar PG should be both a decent dancer and a decent pitcher. The combination of the two spells championship. I hope Wall spends the offseason working on his pitch.

Don: Hey, Napoleon. What did you do last summer again?
Napoleon Dynamite: I told you! I spent it with my uncle in Alaska hunting wolverines!
Don: Did you shoot any?
Napoleon Dynamite: Yes, like 50 of 'em! They kept trying to attack my cousins, what the heck would you do in a situation like that?
Don: What kind of gun did you use?
Napoleon Dynamite: A freakin' 12-gauge, what do you think?

Napoleon Dynamite: You know, there's like a boat-load of gangs at this school. This one gang kept wanting me to join because I'm pretty good with a bow staff.

Napoleon Dynamite: Well, I have all your equipment in my locker. You should probably come get it cause I can't fit my numchucks in there anymore.

barelyawake wrote:I love John Wall, and I was the first on the "tank for the next Kobe - John Wall - bandwagon." But, there keep being small indications that he's not a franchise player. Top PG yes, but not a franchise player. First was the dancing. Then, there was the lack of a killer instinct. Now, there's this.

I'll be told it's psycho babble BS, but I think it's all part of the same thing. I could write a long, long post on the subject. I'll simply say it's exceptionally rare for a PG to win a championship as the franchise player. It takes a certain personality and a certain level of skill. Wall's personality concerns me. I don't see the "Eye of the Tiger."

My conclusion? We still need a franchise player. I thought we needed a Robin for Batman. We need a Batman for Robin. I hope I'm wrong.

Wall plays the game at high speed. He's a great athlete. His passing is much better than I thought it would be. Other than passing better, he is almost exactly what I thought he would be prior to when the Wizards drafted him. I am one of the few on this site that said he's not going to be that good right away. I kept hearing best PG ever stuff, and better than Kidd stuff, and Dwyane Wade comparisons. I think Wall will do well to be in the class of Rondo and Westbrook over the next 2 seasons.

His defense was terrible this past season. He shot the three fairly well, scored fairly well, and passed well to very well. John turned it over at times, got in a rush at times, didn't play with a motor at both ends, lacked confidence in his outside shot, and suffered injury issues as a rookie. Wall was IMO an average NBA PG his first season. (Which is good for a 20-yr old). I like Wall's dedication and athleticism and manners to older people and the media. I'm just not sold that he's great. I think he's merely very good. (HOWEVER, in an up-tempo game the dude is potentially GREAT.)

If his outside shooting and defense improve significantly, the John Wall will prove me wrong and be more than very good.
Tre Johnson is the future of the Wizards.

you must be old. only 40+ year olds complain about the dougie he did after intros of his first career game.

he came out and dropped 29 and 13 after doing the dougie. you don't see the eye of the tiger?

maybe this will help you see it

plenty more where that came from. wall has the heart of a lion. he was tentative in a lot of clutch situations but he showed up in equally as many situations last year. he's a rookie what did you expect? kobe clutch performances in his 1st year?

16 ppg and 8 apg speaks for itself especially when you consider the 10-15 games he came out early or didn't finish due to injury. which drastically affected his numbers.

eye of the tiger comes with a price (see chris paul's nut shot on julius hodge in college). i like wall. he tweets about his family, mystics games, and just getting back from workouts. he doesn't tweet about lapdances, live date play-by-plays, or asking what suit to buy (blatche, arenas, and ochocinco respectively). if we don't win a ring, i'm not too broken up about it.

fwiw, all durant tweets about is playing in summer league games, how much he hates the big cities like LA and NYC, and how much he's playing video games (LA Noire).

armchair GM, AND armchair psychiatry. my armchair is magic.
