Official Atlanta Hawks Offseason Thread

Post#1 » by Ruhiel » Thu Jun 16, 2011 11:35 pm

We know we don't expect anything to actually go down but I thought I'd get one started. Instead of all the disparate threads we can come here for convenience.

I bet we:

- Resign Crawford
- Sign a stash pick with the 2nd rounder
- Sign some vet min FAs
- Call it a day

No, we don't need to go into the luxury to resign Crawford. I think he's due for a pay cut.

That is a crazy paycut, he must have been outed as a pinko for us to get him that cheap.

He may take a pay cut. Maybe he realizes he isn't an effective starter, and looks at JJ as a nice compliment to his game. Plus, the potential this team has once it gets some kind of actual center. If we can draft Shumpert and grab a shooter in FA, then we can let him walk.

As far as the off-season goes(Somewhat realistic)..

- I wish we could move Marvin for Kosta Koufos, while the Nuggets get the Cavs 2nd round pick and the Cavs get Marvin & the Nuggets 2nd round pick.

-Then Draft Iman Shumpert(Crawford's replacement) with our pick.

-S&T for Hamed Haddadi(Trade a Euro's rights).

-Sign Dequan Cook in a S&T(Give up a future 2nd round pick)

-Vet mins to Yi Jianlian, Damien Wilkins, Krylyo Fesenko

2011/2012 Roster

1-Hinrich/Teague/Shumpert
2-Joe/Shumpert/Cook
3-Josh/Casspi/Wilkins
4-Horford/Rolle/Yi
5-Koufos/Haddadi/Fesenko

Thats a big team, with floor spacing. Even has better depth than previous years. A bit unknown at center, but it looks good coming off the bus at least.

Yeah, like $2M max. LOL.

Jamal signing elsewhere is the most obvious storyline of the offseason. The Hawks have VERY little wiggle room under the current lux tax line, which is likely to change for the worse in the CBA negotiations.

If Jamal Crawford walks, I won't be surprised if we go with a cheaper option, and possibly pursue Michael Redd. Kirk Hinrich should produce and make-up for any loss if Crawford walks.

What I really wants is for us to add more quality size and depth off our bench. I'd like to have more 3-point threats coming off our bench, because Miami has issues in that area, and one way to beat them is by shooting them out of the gym like Dallas did during the finals.

I see us doing nothing but wait until the new CBA is agreed upon. Once that happens I see Jamal being allowed to walk and the roster being spackled with minimum salary players. Whether these moves are born from indecision, fear, or patience I can't say, but I think it will be a boring summer for the Hawks.

The hope for improvement will be playing Teague, Hinrich's D instead of Crawford's off the bench, the hope that back surgery makes Marvin something greater than worthless while coming off the bench, Joe getting used to someone else handling the ball more, Josh and Al continuing to improve, Zaza not getting jerked around by the coach all year, and settling on a lineup/identity and sticking to it (big lineup all the time).

Omri Casspi and Dequan Cook are guys the Hawks should pursue.

Al doesn't shoot 3s. If we had Donatas however we go from a 240 lb midrange shooter (Big Al). To a 240 lb 7'1 post up+ 3 point shooter.

Outside of Duncan and Shaq

Hinrich + Teague
Joe + Marvin can shoot the 3 over and attack Wade, Barea, Kidd, Beaubois. Just too big and Lebron will have to switch eventually.

The ones who mess up this plan are shooters like Crawford. Crawford cant post or draw fouls and Marvin just stands and watches.

The Kings have made it clear they like Jeff Teague, but would you give up Jeff Teague for Omri Casspi? Not me!

That's absurd.

What makes you think the Kings are going to take on the additional payroll?

I created a topic during the regular season that we should pursue Omri, so we share the same interest, but Marvin Williams makes no sense from their perspective.

I guess I'm one of few that thinks Marvin will do better else where with an opportunity.. if you like Jeff Green or Wi/son Cchandler, then Marvin can do just the same..

Thinking about trading Marvin and getting anything with a decent use in return is dellusional. I wonder everytime I look at the salaries situation and check how many years he has still with us. Unbelievable how any front court in the league could have done that. Then we can have a LO. No wonder, with such stupid people doing this kind of business...

I also wonder about us doing anything at all this summer or just letting Jamaal go and may be just sign a player with an inferior profile to get some buckets off the bench.

We need a center as we need eating and we need to shake this up a little in order to improve our chances. The Heat will be better next year (even now they are not reachable for us), the Bulls will be better next year, the Celtics should be better next year and the Magic will be better bnext year too.
We cannot afford to see how Jammal walks out, Teague develops, JJ dribbles and JSmoove and Al try to win battles against people taller and stronger.

Pleeeeease, management, DO SOMETHING! Do a trade. Get a center. Change the coach. Anything will make us better.

Marvin Williams for Travis Outlaw and a 2nd rounder is about the best you will get

or

Marvin for Josh Childress and a 2nd rounder

Meaning only way you get rid of Marvin is if you take on a worse contract than his.

You would think maybe we could get a 1st rounder instead of 2nd with the way our GM gave away 2 1st round picks for Kirk Hinrich but that trade was abnormally horrible on our part. No one is going to give a 1st round pick for Marvin.
