If we trade Josh for KG and Ray Allen I don't know what I'd do.

Maybe we can get Brook Lopez from NJ, I think that'd be somewhat fair.

The problem with stars saying "I want to go here and here" is that most of the times they either pick good teams who won't be willing to move their talent or bad teams who don't have the talent...and that is exactly what Josh did.
Rockets: Honestly have nothing of value to move for Josh
Magic: Of course they want Josh to pair with Dwight, but trading him within the division is not a good idea, plus they don't have the value.
Boston: They aren't going to trade their big 4, so who does that leave? Jess Green? No thanks.
Nets: This one is interesting. Nets have some good pieces like Deron and Brook. With Brook taking such a huge step back not sure if he still holds the same value. Of course they would want to pair Josh with those guys.

I honestly think the writers post these things so us Hawks fans have to suffer the punishment from bad offers galore.

Looks like the Magic want to either give us Jameer or Bass and JJ.
Boston seems to think Big Baby+ray is fair.
The other two don't have anything up yet, except for a Nets poster on the trades and transactions board who think giving us Morrow, 2 first rounders this year, and the nets pick is amazing.

L.A Clippers appear desperate to move Chris Kaman. Not that I think it would be a perfect trade for us, am I the only one to see a Kaman-Smith swap happening?

I mean, we all know how cheap the Spirit is, and Kaman would save us tons of money since his contracts expires next summer.

Kaman at the 5 allows us to move Horford at the 4 and let Marvin give us whatever he can at the 3. Obviously, the problem remains depht, but the starting 5 would not be so bad and we'd be bigger.

I'm not sure Smith is exactly the kind of 3 that the Clips are looking for, but I'm sure right now they'd rather have him than Kaman.

I'm all for trading Smith to the Nets for Lopez. Not sure why the Nets would do that though. I'd also consider the trade for Kaman, but the Clippers would have to sweeten that deal. We must get size back.

The rationale for NJ trading for Josh Smith is threefold.

1 - He fits better with Deron Williams than Brook Lopez.
2 - As a team in the hunt for Dwight, he would be a HUGE draw.
3 - He arguably is better than Brook Lopez right now.

Obviously Lopez is more interesting and better than Kaman, but its just not happening. You can't realistically think that the Nets would want to trade away Lopez is they hope to retain Deron at the end of the season. Quality centers are rare, and they have no one else to play the 5. Plus, I think they would rather play Lopez and Humphries together than Smith and Humphries.

I just think that a Kaman-Smith swap really could happen, but I agree that I would prefer receiving some extra value in return. However, I think the Spirit would perceive Kaman's expiring's as that extra value...

Josh is the reason I started and continue to watch this team. I will still be a fan because i live here in the ATL, haw much I watch is another thing. I don't have a problem with trading him, I think he was going to leave after his contract anyway ( going to play with D. howard). If we trade hime please try to move Marvin too! Just build around Al & JJ and go get a Center!

Josh Smith letting management know his preferred list is nice and all, but we must focus on what our needs are, not Josh Smith's. If he was amongst the top players in the league, an All-Star, or star player things would be different, and you must work with the player. Not in this case.

Denver has some pieces that I like very much. Two of them would be Danilo Gallinari and Nene Hilario. Working a trade around one of those two players is something that I would like to see occur. Denver needs a young 4 and Josh Smith fits their needs.

I can see a trade with the Clippers happening and looking like this:
Josh Smith and Marvin Williams
For
Chris Kaman
Randy Foye
Ryan Gomes

We acquire more depth off our bench and save money.

The rumors are suggesting that Andre Iguodala is going to be dealt to the LA Clippers for Chris Kaman.

I think Josh has cleaned up his act in the second round, meaning he stopped taking stupid jumpers. That being said I think we should wait till the trade deadline and let Josh show he's cleaned up his act. That way he'll be worth a lot more.

First the Boston rumor, KG and Ray make what Joe and Josh make so that trade idea would be about dumping Joe's contract for rebuilding after 1 season. The article mentions Sund coveting those players. If the organization made such a deal I could understand it, but I would still be bitter because they could have let Joe walk and built around Al and Josh. Trading for expiring deals at this point would be a reaction to self-inflicted damage.

The list seems like pure Josh-wish list. Houston is the other city that Josh has experience in as he spent at least one summer there working out to get away from the local distractions. Orlando has his best friend on the roster and well New Jersey has the potential of making him a star when they get to Brooklyn. And Boston has Rondo who has ties to Josh from Oak Hill.

As much as I wish Josh happiness I still think the best deal might be Cleveland. The #4 pick (if Kanter is available), Hickson, and contract filler has my interest. I'm also partial to Erden, but I doubt he'd be in the deal. When I say filler it could be the longer term deal of Varejao or Jamison although they'd have to take another guy off our hands if it is Jamison's expiring deal like Zaza or Marvin (who I doubt they want). If we could get Kanter, Hickson and Varejao for Josh then I'd do it in a heartbeat. Hell, I'd do it for Kanter, Varejao, Sessions, and Erden as well. The sad thing would be watching Josh thrive with a PG knowing how many years we squandered without fixing the roster.

The sample size of Kanter is small, but I really believe he's the true prize of this draft.

What would it take to get Josh on the C's.

I'm not sure if there is a viable option for a deal.

If we can't get Lopez and picks from nj, then Houston and some contender that needs Scola would have to be the place we trade him to. Nobody will give up value unless he is extended, so you have to work something out with his preferences..

Josh for Green, Bradley, Clippers pick, and JO. Atlanta gets a veteran center, a forward that can stretch the floor and a pick.

Kaman-for-Smith has been argued ad nauseam, almost always brought up by a newcomer who's excited by his "original" idea. You'll find the proposal several times on this board and several more times on the Trades and Transactions board.

Kaman is inferior. 'We know it and the Clipper fans know it, as they've admitted on their board.

The negative to Smith is the frustration he creates, yet Kaman frustrates Clippers fans just as much for low BBIQ and for being a black hole on offense.

Why would we want a 7fter who can't get as high as our 6'9" guy?
Why would we want a 7fter who isn't a better rebounder than our 6'9" guy?
Why would we want a 7fter who isn't a better low-post scorer than our 6'9" guy?
Aren't those the reasons we'd WANT a 7fter?

As for the expiring, we're over the cap, so unless you're expecting us to dismantle the team, sell the parts and get out of ATL, that's a worthless factor.

Sorry, as I read over this post, I know it sounds rude, but this has been asked-and-answered so many times.

Boston just doesn't have the pieces to add someone like Smith. I don't think bring in ray is a good idea due to having JJ, and Smith wouldn't be traded for a bunch of bench guys.

But how does this trade solve Atlanta's problems? Atlanta needs a starting caliber center so they can move Horford to the 4. JO is not starting caliber. Bringing in Green only means you have more of a debate about who plays where since you are bringing in a tweener who is more so than Smith. Still leaves Atlanta without a center and a worse version of Smith in Green.

Hawks would be able to start Pachulia and Green would make up for Smith's lack of offense.
