Nick Young

Post#1 » by scs02 » Tue Jun 21, 2011 5:11 pm

How much do people think he'll get this summer? I'm a Celtics fan and would love to somehow get him coming off the bench next year and taking over for ray allen at the SG in 2012. Whats the likelihood of WAS doing a sign + trade of young for big baby davis, avery bradley and a draft pick?

If he gets more than MLE level money, I'd be shocked

He should get less than MLE money.. $4-5 million a season is his worth.

I think the front office is going to match most reasonable offers and the CBA helps a ton

I was actually doing some lazy math-eo-matical calculations before and each team averaged a payroll of about $67 million. Supposedly, the BRI breaks have been to where the players have had to give some money back to the owners the last couple of years to get the 57-43 split straight.

Right now, the owners are pushing to get something like $700 million back from the players. I figure that they'd compromise and there'll be something like $300-400 million coming back to the owners.

If we avoid doing complicated math based on the BRI and percentages, that would press the cap down into the range of maybe $53-57 million. It could be that this is off and doing a better job of running the numbers will skew things, but I don't want to mess with that.

The owners offers right now also are only going to allow other teams to offer three years, so that could change.

So then, you need a team with both short term and long term flexibility.

There's also three shooting guard getting drafted in the top 20 picks as well as Jason Richardson, Vince Carter, Marcus Thornton, Arron Afflalo, Reggie Williams, Wilson Chandler and as bunch of bigger wings will on the market.

Bottom line, I think it's going to be cheap to keep Nick. If I had to guess, I think he'll get the Deshawn contract: 4 years @ $18 million in order to beat out someone thinking about 3 years @ $15. It's actually in his interests to sign with the Wizards and get that fourth year rather than let us match a 3 year contract offer from someone.

It sounds absurdly low, but I think it's a perfect storm.

We will bid against ourselves and give him 4/25. Unless we draft Burks or Kemba out of the blue I can't imagine us S/T'ing him

That video is eerily reminiscent of a younger Henry Kissinger.
