I would make the trade now, prior to knowing who Cleveland picks. Irving or Williams will be a cornerstone piece to this franchise. I can't say that with confidence for anyone else in this draft.

If the Jazz FO thinks it's worth it I'm all for it. Personally, I wouldn't be too bothered to lose #12 in this draft. It's a pretty weak draft (supposedly) and if I have to lose out on Burks to land Irving or Williams I go ahead and do it. If I can get #20 in the deal then it's a no brainer. FOr me anyway.

But, from what I hear Irving is a lock @#1. So, we'd be moving up for Williams. He'd have to prove to me that he's an NBA SF before I do this. If he can do that, I give up #12 to move up 1 spot, absolutely.
"Thibs called back and wanted more picks," said Jorge Sedano. "And Pat Riley, literally, I was told, called him a mother-bleeper and hung up the phone."

The only reason that makes any sense is if they feel that the Williams/Knight (or Walker) combo works better for them then the Irving/Kanter (or Val) combo.

If they feel that the drop from Irving to Knight is less than the drop from Williams to Kanter, then it's not entirely stupid. Especially if they don't project any of them to be Franchise players.

The only reason this draft is called weak is because there is no clear all star type talent in this draft. However, I have read a ton of reports that this draft has a ton of quality players that will be contributors for years to come. This is why I don't think you give up #3 and #12 for just #2. It has to also include the #20 where you might get a guy that can still contribute. Unless Irving is there I would rather keep #3 and #12.

I agree this draft is weak on superstars, but I believe it is pretty strong on solid players. Chad Ford retweeted that a normal draft has 15-19 quality 1st round players and this one is expected to have 22. Last year I wanted to trade up to get Monroe or Favors, but wasn't excited with much else. This year I can get excited about several guys and probably won't be disappointed no matter who we take. With the difference between 3 and 12, and maybe even 2 and 12 being negligible, I could be wooed by moving up for Irving, but I think I prefer keeping our two picks (unless we get a solid veteran for one of them).

Chad Ford just said,

I think I'm going to have my 6 year old daughter Summer do Mock 7. She's got as good of a chance of getting it right as I do.

Finally, Ford is being honest.
