Re: The Bismack Biyombo Bandwagon pt 2
I'm shocked that a thread about a prospect that the Raptors may or may not draft has reached over 100 pages and that a new thread had to be created to replace the old one.
I don't think we've seen this in previous years when potential targets were much more concentrated and not as numerous.
I guess that's the Raptors forum for you.

I almost hope that Knight doesn't fall. Almost.

Re: The Bismack Biyombo Bandwagon pt 2
at least trade down to take this guy
i.e. Sac for 7th and Casspi
hopefully the difference of Walker / Knight to Jimmer would be enough
or like being discussed something with Mill 5th for 10th + Jennings

I think this means we are finally done bashing T.Mac, VC and Bosh. Or at least we can hope.
And as far as Biyombo, I'm meh. Weak drafts lend themselves to over-reaches and gambles. Its strong drafts where picking a Serbian phenom over three highly talented college boys can set your franchise back a decade.

If you want him so bad, trade down. DO NOT PICK HIM AT #5. No one else will take him that high. One dimensional player.
Organization can be defined as an organized body of people with a particular purpose. Not random.

I think if you can live with the fact that Biyombo's offense will take years to develop, he's a solid pick. We could trade down and get extra value while still drafting him. Only thing that has me concerned is his height at 6'9", not that there haven't been effective 6'9" centers but I prefer have a pure 7'0" anchor in the defense who can block/alter shots and rebound efficiently.

Re: The Bismack Biyombo Bandwagon pt 2
This guy is awesome!!! Cool nickname given by Canadian Kevin Pangos, think it is gonna stick.
Bismack 'The Business' Biyombo!!!
Bismack 'The Business' Biyombo!!!
she's 18, same as me — and she might want to stay in Spain with her family. If she doesn't want to move, I told her I understand, that's no problem, but the United States is like another world, and being there for the first time is gonna be difficult. I need someone next to me. If she's not gonna come, I told her I'm gonna have to catch up with someone over there. It was hard to tell her that, but I'm not gonna lie to her and say, "I love you," and keep things going and then she finds out I'm doing something wrong. I like to talk to people face-to-face and be honest.
Then in Portland at the Hoops Summit, my teammates were calling me all kinds of nicknames! They called me "Big Mac" and I was like, "What? What is this, Big Mac?" Then one guy was like, "We want to call you 'Big Smack.'" So I said, "OK, you can call me 'Big Smack.' I can roll with that." They had all kinds of nicknames for me, a different one every day. Kevin Pangos, the Canadian, one time he said during practice, "Dude, you're the ****' 'Business,' man. That's your new name." I asked why. He said, "Dude, when you're on the floor, you're all business. We're gonna call you 'The Business.'

I'll play defense when you get a girlfriend

wow. me too. didn't really think much of his game before but this article sure makes him seem like a smart and focused guy who could become something special...also seems to lay to rest the age issue which to me was a big one...i thought for sure he was a few years older than he said...

Re: The Bismack Biyombo Bandwagon pt 2
I am all for Biyombo at #5 but as for his age, I cant believe he is 18 although its not impossible.... His parents are both Government Officials of the Congo...being a government official in a 3rd world country makes it very easy use "connections" to fix legal documents. I also believe its quite possible to manipulate "his" bone scans from spain as well. It just takes a bit of knowing the right people and a bit of cash. Right now, no one can prove he is not 18. But, I bet it cant be proven that he IS 18....If teams wanted to, im sure they could send him to a doctor, do some weird tests and find out how old he really is right now.
But if hes younger than 22....draft him at 5

I really don't think age is that important to GM's otherwise they would've gotten a second opinon already to identify Biyombo's real age. Take BC for example, would it really matter to him if Biyombo's 18 or 22 when BC only has a 2 yr contact? it's not like Biyombo is going to retire anytime soon, he still have quite a few years to go before he reaches that stage. I think it may also be in BC's best interest that Biyombo is 18 (verified by his agent) just so that it doesn't decrease his trade value if whenever it comes to the point where they need to trade him.
Masai's to do list

Thanks for the link! I wasn't that high on drafting Biyombo but this article really makes him seem likeable.

Re: The Bismack Biyombo Bandwagon pt 2
The age issue is less about time (contracts and career length) as it is about mental and physical development. Obviously he is a physical freak for any age category.....and he seems smarter and more mature than most grown men in the NBA today....and thats while communicating in his 5th-7th language.
So if hes 18....he has a properly freakish intellect as well. To have learned 5-7 languages by the age of 18 is quite amazing...to have learned 5-7 languages by the age of 22 is still crazy....but again, with the age concerns, its not about lengths of time, its about development. If he is 18 he will change drastically and more quickly, both mentally and physically by the time he is 22...4yrs man,,,thats a long time being a sponge mentally and learning new habits instead of trying to get rid of old habits...it also would mean he could grow taller and thicker....however, if he is already 22...he will not grow taller and he will develop slower mentally.
As I said, I still pick him at 5 because of the weak draft this year. I also think he can impact the team right now even without improving.
PS- He is the oldest of 7 siblings.....lets go to the Congo and compare him to all of his younger brothers and sisters. I wonder how old they are....if he is the oldest, it wouldnt be unreasonable to think he was only 2 yrs older than the next youngest one.

Re: The Bismack Biyombo Bandwagon pt 2
As I cited earlier. He apparently grew 1/2 an inch from Nike Hoops Summit to recent workout (in a few months). If it is not a measurement error, then it's very likely that he's indeed 18. Growing 1/2 an inch in 3 months sounds to me that he's still growing --> definitely younger than 22.
I like his mental and maturity. The way he brings energy, passion, and toughness to even practices.
Best case scenario: Dwight Howard
Worst case scenario: Adonal Foyle
My minimum expectation: Theo Ratliff (all-star, defensive big man)
Regardless, he should be a good defender.

Ya the more and more I think about it, why not? People complain about not picking him at 5, but pre-draft hype machine everyone said after 1/2 it was a crapshoot/not much differentiating people. If that's the case, why not just take him at 5 if there is not a huge difference between 3-15?

No way Biyombo will turn into Howard. He's not as big and assertive offensively. I think he'll be a smaller Mutombo.
