If the Jazz draft Kanter....

Post#1 » by BarneyGumble » Wed Jun 22, 2011 3:18 pm

Ok I really believe the Minnesota trade makes a lot of sense but I am just going to operate here under the assumption that there is no trade and the Jazz will select their own #3 and #12 picks.

I think its not hard to argue that Millsap/Jefferson does not work. That combo cannot rebound and defend well. Neither is a true center. Millsap is too darn small to be consistently effective as a starting PF IMO.

So I am torn between Knight/Kanter at #3. I am leaning Knight, but if history has taught me anything, its that the Jazz always draft the big white guy. So if the Jazz draft Kanter, then I cannot see us being effective with Millsap and Jefferson logjamming the development of a young Favors and young Kanter. Thats too many bodies for too few minutes.

I think to make it work with Kanter, the Jazz will need to trade Millsap + some of our crap (Bell or Miles) to get a decent swing man or 2 guard. If that is the case, does anyone out there know of any potential good trades for Millsap + crap that are feasible?

Or is there another scenario that can make drafting Kanter successful for us?

Right now I'm torn between Kanter and Knight. I trust the Jazz will take the BPA. My dream scenario would be for the Jazz to land both Kanter and Knight by trading the 12th pick and a combination of Harris, Millsap and any other player to move up from 12 to get him.

If the Jazz take Knight at #3, then I think there's a very little chance that Kanter slips pass the Cavs and thus no chance of getting Kanter.

So as a draft strategy, I think the Jazz should draft Kanter first and try to maybe work some trades to move up to get Knight. Maybe they can work a trade with the Cav's at that point for the 4th or Raptors at 5. However, If this can't be done, by drafting Kanter at #3 this would also open up the possibility that Kemba or Jimmer fall to 12th. The Jazz could end up with a combination of Kanter and Jimmer/Kemba. But like i said, I only do this if the Jazz feel they can trade up to get Knight or they don't feel like there's a big difference in BPA between Kanter and Knight. If the difference is significant, the Jazz can't play draft games and just need to secure the player they want the most at 3 and let chips fall where they may to see what's available at 12.

I like the idea of taking Knight at 3, then ending up with either Valanciunas, T. Thompson, Biybombo, or Motiejunas at 12.

That is a better option imo than taking Kanter at 3, and hoping Jimmer is there at 12.

I'm hearing that Minny is all a sudden strongly considering taking Kanter at #2....so there is a chance that he won't even be there.

I like Knight, but if Williams is there that would be hysterical, wouldn't shock me at all.

According to TribJazz (can't remember the guys name) it sounds like Kanter really likes Corbin and thinks he will end up here. Of course you never know what in the world the T-Wolves will do.

Jazz are being patient and it could pay off. Wolves started to seriously look at Kanter at No. 2 last night. If they ultimately take him, Derrick Williams falls right into their laps and it costs them nothing. If he doesn't, they seem fairly content with either Brandon Knight, Kanter or Jan Vesely.

I feel like Williams is a pipe dream, so I don't want to get my hopes up. If they pass on him, I would love it. Dude just makes plays when it counts and his stroke is amazing:

I really think he will be able to play the SF effectively. I love these vids too:

I really am glad that the Jazz are being patient about it though. Because in the end, if it does go Irving then Williams, I am perfectly happy with Knight. Man the anticipation is killer...

If Williams does fall, they really need to work the phones hard to move Millsap. Package him to move up and get Knight, as well. Millsap will not be happy.

D-will is a dream....I would be drank in hand if he will fall to the 3rd and the Jazz will select him.

Kanter? O think he is so overreated. But we know that KOC fall in love with white guys.

P.S how many Center we drafted? Is there any succes of these guys?

How many centers or white guys have we drafted in the lottery? 2? or 1? I count Gordon who I like, and Humphries who was low n the lotto.

In fairness, we usually draft in the late teens or twenties, so it's not exactly a comparable situation.

God i hope the Wolves fall for this Kanter trap. If he's there at 3, im pretty sure Utah is taking him, and he will, like the post before mine says, be the next Kouf.

why not? So everybody look at his game. But he only played in Europe most of the time.

He has no defense ( Milicic has)

The only reason to draft him it's because of memo will miss a lot of games.

better to draft Knight.

NO to Kanter! He's Hoffa/Koufos 2.0.

He plays NO defense. This giuy is going to be a liability like Boozer on that end. And people always say he 's a good rebounder, but just look at this video.

He gets no lift on his jumps, so he won't be able to rebound as well or block shots at the next level. And he will get his shot blocked at the rim plenty.

And in HS, he was a "man amongst boys." He used to just bully smaller people in the post, even though he's not a good athlete. When the defenders are bigger and faster at the NBA level, he won't be able to score on them.

He's gonna be a bust, I guarantee it.

If Kahn draft Kanter ahead of Williams, he should be fired immediately (even though he should've already been fired). That might be the dumbest move in the history of the NBA draft (even dumber than drafting 2 PGs with back-to-back picks). Kanter/Love/Beasley would be the worst defensive frontcourt of ALL-TIME! But I hope they take him and let Williams fall to us.
