Knicks have inquired about Nash.

Post#1 » by Gorilla Warfare » Wed Jun 22, 2011 4:39 pm

Now I know Babby said that we weren't trading Nash. But he is at least calling offices back asking about what they will offer. If you were Babby what would be the trade that sends to Nash to NY?

I would say anything less than Billups/Fields/17th we close the door. We would have to include Childress or Pietrus to do it.

They don't have much to give, and they're not going to give up the farm for Nash when they're waiting for Paul in 2012.

Would you guys trade Nash for Lebron? Don't you think "Nash for #17 & Fields & 1st 2012" is just a tad lopsided in your favor? Nash hasn't really declined, and that's great, but he is 37 and its probably going to start soon..

You guys can keep Landry. I'd rather have Douglas.

Billups said he didn't want to leave Denver. Send Nash to NY, Billups back to Denver and a resigned Affalo and Felton to Phx.

I'd be ok with that. But he's not going anywhere. It's a worthless discussion to have.

So, do we have any "insiders" left here? I remember that Traxxe posted at the trade deadline that Nash had actually requested a trade but wouldn't go public with his request. The supposed plan was to trade both Nash and Lopez at the draft for picks, and to possibly get rid of Childress and/or Warrick in the process.

By the way, Tommy Dee, who says the Nash to the Knick is heating up, was one of the first to have Amare signing with the Knicks.

Why does Denver do it though? They really, really want Lawson starting. Billups coming back would interfere with that, and they'd be giving up Afflalo.

im open to Nash trade ideas just not with the Knicks! i have way too many ties with N.Y and do not want the chatter that is going to come my way by ignorant fans. i hate this superteam model that the Heat opened up.

the only way ill like it is if we get CP3 and Dhoward next season

Doesn't matter. Knicks still don't have a damn thing to give up for Nash. Third team would pretty much have to be involved.

Doubt it has legs, but if this did...

I've never been a proponent of rebuilding, but doing what we've always done... KJ, Kidd, Marbury, Nash the Suns have put butts in the seats and good championship possible teams out on the floor first and foremost by having capable star PGs at the helm.

I just don't see much available out there that isn't just a projection. Is that Calderon? I actually am probably one of the few people that likes Andre Miller's game, but he is old. Parker is a legit PG in this league and wouldn't be an embarrassment next to the names above.

I would guess the best solution is Calderon and #5. Calderon is hyper-efficient with the ball and good distributor and shooter, just seems to not be able to stay healthy. Probably can't get anyone all that great at 5 though and if Nash plays to 40, is an extended Nash of 37-40 better than 5 years of Calderon 30-35 (extended for 3)? I don't think so and so the 5 pick would have to make up that difference.

Maybe what you'd have to do is find a way to work a 3 way with Toronto and Philadelphia to have this make sense, to me at least.

Phoenix
Andre Iguadala - SF
Jose Calderon - PG

Toronto
Steve Nash

Philadelphia
Vince Carter
Robin Lopez
#5
(maybe 13 too)

I don't think salaries work right, but

Toronto gives up a 5th pick they may not want that badly and a player they'd have to trade anyway because he is being replaced by Nash.

Philadelphia gets what they want for Iguadala cap relief AND something of value if they took back 5/13/Lopez and that much cap relief, they could hardly complain I think.

Phoenix trades some of their future cap flexibility for two players that you would think would be better than what they could land on the free agent market in 2012. Maybe somewhere in the mix you could unload the lesser of two bad contracts in Warrick as well (that would be some tweaking.)

You still end up with holes where we have them today, but it would at least add a player a lot of fans seem to want to keep excitement up. Don't know if it would be all that wise, but I think better than starting from scratch because at least you are adding players back with clear value themselves... rather than a busted draft pick who could leave the team saddled at the bottom of the league talent-wise.

Suppose I prefer something like this than anything that New York could possibly offer or even blowing the whole thing up and starting from scratch... Minnesota continues to desperately show how important quality vets are to the success of a franchise.
