Al Jefferson's trade Value

Post#1 » by babyjax13 » Thu Jun 23, 2011 2:07 pm

This was in response to a poster that suggested the Jazz trade Jefferson for Anderson Varajao. I thought it put pretty well into perspective how good Jefferson is.

I still find it hard to believe that people dislike Jefferson this much. He's not a fatally flawed player, and to a team that needs scoring he is a very viable option. After the all-star break he was a top 5 player in the league and he put a terrible Jazz team on his back and almost earned them a playoff berth.

Losses not within 5: 10

For a large portion of that time Devin Harris was injured, Andrei Kirilenko was injured, Raja Bell was injured and CJ Miles was injured. With those guys back I could easily see the Jazz having one 4 out of those 6 five point games, which still would have left them out of the playoffs, but with a winning record and a .500 record post Deron. Let's not forget that prior to trading Williams the Jazz had just finished a 4-14 stretch. With a healthy Harris and Andrei along with Favors the Jazz would have done much better than that. As soon as Al became "the man" and the turmoil on this team was gone we improved.

I like Big Al. The dude played in 82 games. You can't give up that durability for Anderson Varajao who is getting old. Big Al is only 26. Plus you need to keep an experienced big around to help the younger guys. Jefferson hasn't even peaked yet and had a tremondous year for the Jazz and we trade him why?

He has no trade value as was seen when he was traded to Utah. I keep him and hope playing alongside a shot blocker like Favors helps him defensively. If we draft Kantor, then he gets traded in 1-2 years when his value is higher.

Anderson Varajao? who wants him?

We can find someone in the 2nd round that can do what he does and probabley be better at it. Now if the cavs were packaging him with Hickson and their unprotected first next year, I might be tempted a little.

No way in hell I'm trading Aj for VAREJAO. I don't see how that is even remotely fair. You can build a team with Jefferson, Varejao is nothing but a role/energy player. Jefferson is a 20/10 guy. Like it was said, he carried the Jazz in the 2nd half of the year, he also carried the Twolves when he was there. Varajao would never carry a team, he can't even average double digit points in a year.

I don't see why his value is so low but I doubt that it is much more than what we sent out for him.

His value is low because he's not had any sort of impact that you'd expect from a guy putting up the numbers he does.

I know there's no such thing as empty stats, but you have to question whether his all round game brings enough benefits to a team, for instance Minny sucked with him (without him too), and his impact on the Jazz doesn't exactly get the media excited.

If the Jazz were a 50 win team then his value would be much higher. He's still a good player but not the perfect fit for many teams. People also think he's a PF and PF is a pretty deep position in the league.

But look at this supporting casts in both situations. On the Jazz he had no Harris, no Miles, no AK, all hurt. Thats 3 starters. On Minn he had McCants, Foye and Ryan Gomes. The one time he had a decent team around him was the beginning of this year Pre-Deron Williams trade. However he never really had the chance to learn to play with him.

I'm not expecting anything like a Melo/Dwill trade for him, but Varajao? He's clearly worth more then that.

Yeah he's worth more than Varejao, and yeah the situations aren't ideal, but we've never seen him be successful as such, so it's still a big question mark.

Do you realize how much $14 million dollars is worth? Minnesota traded him for that much money and a future favor owed.

Along with nearly zero support from players and an inept coaching staff, everyone else is conveniently forgetting he was recovering from knee surgery in Minnesota (and still was last season with Utah).
