Toot that horn Hoopalotta! You deserve it. I'm going to keep an open mind on Jan. If for no other reason than I like whiny groupthink being debunked...

Does Wizards’ NBA draft invite provide clue to pick?
By Michael Lee

For what it’s worth, the Wizards have invited staff members from the Czech Republic Embassy to attend the team’s draft party at Verizon Center on Thursday. That doesn’t necessarily mean that the Wizards will take forward Jan Vesely with the sixth overall pick, but it certainly is an indication that he is in strong consideration to join John Wall in Washington.

Edit: Al is only on the books for one more year after this one. Kanter to Utah makes sense. Don't know why none of us saw it sooner. he and Favors will grow well together.

Utah knows what their doing. They have been consistently one of the better drafting teams in the league. I never quite bought the Brandon Knight talk. Especially when Kanter IMO is a better prospect. I think Knight is a bit overrated as a top 5 choice. A Kanter/Favors front line does seem like it would work well together.

Ernie & his minions are idiots and Leonsis is an even bigger idiot for trusting his decision making ability.

I hope TOR takes Vessley

+1000 billion

With a likely upcoming amnesty clause, trading away a young asset, even a flawed one, would be a lot stupider than taking a shot in the draft. ;)

I don't like Vesely. On the other hand, I like everyone else we're supposedly looking at. The Synergy defensive numbers, and some of the pace adjusted rebounding numbers, have softened my stance slightly. I still think his ceiling is pretty low... he's somewhere between a 5th and 8th man on a really good team... but pretty much everyone else after the second pick have the same problem.

I'd rather have Val or Kanter. I'm intrigued by Leonard and Tristan. I will... feel... sick... if we draft Vesely. But I won't massacre EG and Leonsis until after he busts. =P

The collective wisdom of the board hates the Vesely idea. Hmmm.

We all have a history of hits and misses with all of our teams and their drafts. Recently I hated what the Redskins did, loved what the Nats did, and know that the Capitals got the steal of the '10 draft, i liked half of the Wiz draft in '10. I've had my hits and misses with the Wiz drafts in recent years, but I was actually in a position to support the McGee pick having watched him play during his time at UNR (I lived an hour away from campus so I could see most of the games), so I got that one right. Some wrong ones included Booker (i hated, and he's at least adequate), Seraphin (I loved and we're still kind of waiting). I could do the list, we all have one. Sometimes we just know it, and we're right (it was very easy to do this with the Boulez before they became the wizards, and with the ceratto lead redskins (having watched him help pilot the good ship 49ers into an iceberg in the 90's i knew his hire by snyder was a disaster), but sometimes we just don't have access or can't see what others can, and so we miss, even when we're sure. It could be that way about Vesely.

So a guy who can't shoot, dribble, rebound, or pass is the pick....because he's tall and can dunk.

Awesome. They might as well play Javale McGee at small forward.

How close is Turkey to Czech? Perhaps they have good relations and are also interested in Kanter? Regardless whether they're planning on picking Vesely or not it's just stupid to invite the embassy. Who is running this ship? Susan O'Malley?

I agree. Just not smart since no one knows what trade scenarios might pop up. I would have given the #18 to move up a few spots for Kanter and everyone knows I'm very conservative with the draft.

So what happens if the Wizards trade or don't take Veseley? Pretty awkward. The Susan O'Malley line is appropriate.

well, my term for the "whiny groupthink" has been "draft time silly-season". It's one thing to prefer certain players over other players, but this level of anxiety over players they've never seen play a full game is literally silly.

edit: That being said, not a big fan of a Veseley selection and would prefer moving the 18th to get Kanter or even stashing Valenciunas if we know he's coming over in 1 year.

I hope everyone who laughed at me for wanting to give up any 1st rounder this year + McGee for Williams is happy.

How the heck do you build around a core of Wall/Vesely/McGee?

hahaha

Sad thing is...what if Ernie is so stubborn in trying to push Vesely as our starting SF that we miss on Gilchrist/Barnes and all the other forwards next year?

This was EXACTLY what I was talking about when I said its easier to draft around Wall/Williams and a bunch of d-leaguers than it is to spread the salary around, win more and have a terrible core with a ton of rooks.

McGee sure does have a lot of upside though right guys!

I'm going to listen to it on ESPN radio. A good fallback if you can't find anything else (works internationally for anyone in that predicament too).

Also, if Veseley is the pick at #6, it's time to start thinking more about #18.

With a skinny forward taken early, I'm super extra mega hoping that Faried is available at #18. We need some bulk and strength in the post and I think Faried would be a super complement to Blatche as a front court duo.

I'd nominate this post as a perfect example of "draft time silly season".

Tweeners like Williams don't win in the NBA. Williams also doesn't give 100% on defense.

Don't come here with blocked shots either, watch the whole games

Skies the limit.

Not that your logic doesn't have any merit but so does keep McGee. Did you listen to all those star level NBA talents comment on McGee when he invited to the USA team and the dunk contest ?

I don't know...I was called a hater but if we end up with Vesely I don't think it's the end of the world. Ain't excited but apparently the Wiz have wanted him for a while so I'm going to give them the benefit of the doubt (yea, I'm an idiot) and assume they know what they're doing. Even if he ends up being a piece of **** he's our piece of ****. Can't say I'm excited about pick number 6 though. I wasn't sold on Kanter either so if we aren't getting Williams, it is what it is, and McGee and #6 (plus 34?) would have been way too much. I guess I'm drinking until about pick 13 and then getting the game face on.

If nothing else, Wall on the break with Vesely on one wing and McGee on the other should lead to some nice You Tube clips........and Sullinger this time next year.

If We draft Vesley is the 6th pick, hopefully Burks,Motiejunas, singleton and Tyler wil be the pick. Our 2nd round pick will be Malcolm Lee, or Greg Smith.

Honestly, I don't see any silver lining to it, but I'll try to develop an open mind on him and keep my mouth shut when he does inevitably stink game in and game out.

That sounded open-minded, right? 8-)

It's a bad day - I got laid off at work, and the Wiz are picking the 1 guy I was afraid they would. Things can only get better.
