Hawks try to deal Josh Smith for #2 Pick
http://sports.yahoo.com/nba/news?slug=a ... ing_062311
I like this deal and always have but I do not like the thought of taking such an unknown as Kanter. I don't care that he is listed at 6"11.25 in shoes which is exactly 1.5 inches taller than Al is listed in shoes. He is still thought to be a C/PF which is not exactly what we need. If we are trading Josh I say we need to get a legit C, one in which there is no question what position he plays. I believe Derrick Williams is the only superstar in this draft and if we are trading away Josh for one player to be drafted tonight it should be him. He is the only player in this draft who can electrify a crowd like Josh can. He has a better jumpshot, can play the same positions that Josh does SF/PF. He has great upside and is more of a known thing than Kanter or Kyrie Irving.

I'm kind of torn on Derrick Williams. I've probably watched him play 3 times and he was easily the most impressive prospect I've seen....but his production really wasn't that spectacular compared to the other super-star tweeners in past years(Melo/Durant/Beasley).
With that said-You'd have to be an idiot to take Kanter over him.

Re: Hawks try to deal Josh Smith for #2 Pick
I am torn on Williams as well. he looks solid but then again he is a tweener. Do you play him at the 3 or the 4?
If he can play the same positions as Josh can then why would we want him? I thought the whole idea was to trade Josh for a player who can play the 5. Eventually we are going to have to solve that center problem or we will find ourselves with Al demanding a trade.

Re: Hawks try to deal Josh Smith for #2 Pick
The difference is that Kanter wants to bang in the paint, he's not conflicted. I'm sold on Kanter, but other people aren't so sure.
As for Williams I believe he is a 4 even though he thinks he's a 3, just a better shooting one than Josh, but he's really weak on defense. On the plus side he'd be about half the price for the majority of Joe's contract length. If we had Williams it would increase the need to get a better C than our current situation.

Re: Hawks try to deal Josh Smith for #2 Pick
Kanter is not going to put people in the seats like Josh or Derrick Williams will and just because you look like a beast against kids and when you work out does not mean you will look the same way when playing grown men. Al Horford looked like a beast in college, he looked like the Center rather than Noah but that all changed when got to the NBA and ran into men. Kanter is a C who has already expressed that he wants to play PF. So,we are going to trade Josh for another guy that sees himself as a PF, that does not make sense to me. I would rather trade Josh for Derrick Williams who sees himself as a SF, can put people in the seats. I young center who does not protect the rim would be a step back for the Hawks. So, we are gonna have a rookie Center and 3rd year unseasoned PG starting. Sounds like another made in excuse to hide Teague at the end of the bench or bring him off the bench instead of grooming him as your starter by playing him that way. I don't like it for many reasons give me Derrick Williams and with the salary you save sign a free agent Center.
PG Teague
SG Joe
SF Derrick Williams
PF Al
C Dalembert
I will ride with that and be happy.

We won't be under the cap to sign Dalembert, and he will command more than the MLE.
Your lineup if the Hawks would do the trade and take Williams would likely be the following:
PG Teague/Hinrich
SG Joe/Hinrich
SF Williams/Beasley/Marvin
PF Horford
C Zaza
Not sure how that is better than something like:
Teague
Joe
Beasley
Horford
Kanter

If we accomplish this deal, I guess some players from Minny have to come here, due to salary implications.
Milicic and may be the contract of Pekovic (4 mill $, I believe), which can be used in such a negotiation, as he recently agreed to leave for Europe, could be included.
May be the Wolves could also have enough space to attempt the sign of Marc Gasol.
May be they could include the contract of Eddy Curry instead, but that would be too good to be true.
I am sold on this Kanter idea. He is a player I have always liked and would love to have here. May be not a true C, but a big player with post moves, a great touch, very good shooting ability...

Give it to the hawks just to f-up draft picks, seriously Kanter? dude wants to be a PF in the nba, not a center.

Exactly, and people are ignoring that. We will have the same mess the TWolves just got rid of. Kevin Love and Al Jefferson equals the same mess as Al Horford and Enes Kanter. This is not a bad deal but to take Kanter is bad.

Josh Smith puts people in the seats? I'm not convinced of that at all.

I'd be happy with Kanter or Derrick Williams. I have this gutwrenching feeling that if this trade happened, we'd draft Biyombo though.

Josh Smith or Derrick Williams put more people in the seats than Kanter ever will.

The Hawks being run properly and playing good basketball will help improve the teams attendance. The playoff games will most likely always be sold out with or without Josh Smith. I'm still not convinced that he puts fans in the seats consider we rank amongst the worst in the league in attendance.

i would rather have Biyombo than Kanter atleast he can block shots and play defense, I would not want to do it for just but if I was forced to do a trade for the 2nd pick and it had to be Josh I would take Biyombo before Kanter. Getting triple doubles blocks rebounds and scoring is more impressive than what Kanter did playing against the same level competition.

I like Derrick Williams, but if we acquire the 2nd overall pick I doubt Sund drafts him, so I think the plan would be to go with a big man to have a more traditional lineup.

OK now I'd just like to keep Josh Smith. The idea of Derrick Williams intrigued me but this Kanter/Biyombo discussion is giving me flashbacks of Yi.

Which is why I could never be a GM. This idea of a "traditional" lineup is stupid given that the entire outlook of the league will probably be different by the time any of these players reaches their primes. I mean we are only 3 years removed from the Beasley/Rose debate and both of those teams rosters have gone through dramatic overhauls already & that was BEFORE the new CBA.

Any team that gets Derrick Williams is going to be very happy with what he's going to bring to their team. I like and want him, but I really never cared for Horford staying at the 5. I'd prefer Derrick to be our 3 if we had the opportunity to draft him.
