Was this a good pick for us? Hows his defensive potential?

He has ungodly long arms, and he's very active; he should be able to block and change a lot of shots, if he can avoid fouls. He'll probably have difficulty against very strong centers, but that hardly makes him unique.

Long-term, when you think of a combination of Valanciunas and Davis upfront...that could be an extremely good frontcourt defensively, fantastic on the glass, and capable offensively. We're finally trying to go in the right direction, even if Val flops.

Don't see much reason to hate on the pick. Everybody else they could have taken with the pick was flawed in one way or the other.

Excellent pick. I have been following JV through DX all year and I feel satisfied that we have a guy with lots of upside. Now to somehow snag another pick in 2012, and then it's championship time.

We should at least see out he pans out before we crucify him. If you don't know anything about his actual game and are basing your comments on him being a Euro, then stfu.

Where did you guys watch the Casey interview?

I actually don't mind Jonas, as long as it's not Biyombo or Kanter but it's the fact that I know BC made this pick with Bargnani playing the four and Valaciunas playing the 5 in mind.

Sounds like a solid pick.

Just trade Bargnani now please.

His write-up on DX also notes his excellent ability at setting screens, something this team has sucked at for way to long.

Doesn't have much of an offensive game either than putbacks offensive rebounds, or pick-and-roll. Good defensive rebounder. As a defender, he challenges a lot of shots due to his freakish wingspan, but we'll see how he'll do because shot blockers tend to pick up a lot of fouls.
Basketball is like poetry in motion, cross the guy to the left, take him back to the right, he's fallin back, then just J right in his face. Then you look at him and say, "What?" - Jesus Shuttlesworth

Yeah, as long as Colangelo finally moves Bargnani at some point.

Seconded.

The Spurs wanted this guy badly. He was BPA AND he fills a need.

Best thing of all was how terrific the smokescreen was. Biyombo, Knight, Walker, not a single peep about us even liking Val. Kept us from having to swap picks with Cleveland. BC is the master.
