And his shot looks way better than Mardy's did. Remember when we drafted Ariza and he couldn't shoot a lick? He improved so why can't Shumpert? At least we know he's a great defender right away.

If he cracks the rotation he will probably get around 10 - 15 minutes per game

So thats 10 - 15 minutes of solid defence and probably 3- 5 shots a game which will probably consist of kick outs cuts to the basket and transition layups / dunks

Lets keep in mind this was a weak draft and its not like he is being asked to carry the scoring load

So we will see how things work out

he isn't coming off the bench. He will start over Landry.

I seriously doubt that. Welcome aboard Iman.

Maybe in 2012...i dont expect knicks to start any rooks next season.

Landry isn't a SG and can't defend that position.

Iman will start.

maybe not on day 1, but based on defense alone, he should start quit early and Landry can be the 6th man.

Well see. I really dont see knicks starting any rooks next season. Barring injury or landry just looking god awful in offseason...

The kicks needed a perimeter defender more than a scoring sg. If he can come in and play the opposing sg and make him work Imma fine with that. We got melo to score from the perimeter. Fields was not the best man to man defender. And struggled defending the 3 pointer

I am not a Knick fan but imo this was a good pick. I've watched Shumpert play a lot while he was at GT and here are my thoughts..

1. He is a very good defender. At GT he guarded the 1-3 and did it very well. With his size and athleticism he should be able to guard PG's and SG's at the next level. Even in HS he became a top recruit because of his performances at camps against guys like Kemba on offense and defense (really bothered Kemba)

2. He is a very inconsistent shooter but his form and mechanics are pretty good so he can/should get better

3. Even though he is an inconsistent shooter he will be a threat on offense. He can create his own shot whenever he wants and is a good slasher. He is also a good playmaker who at times is too unselfish and tries too hard to set others up when he should be attacking. He is not a PG but he can run the point while the starter is out (i.e Mayo, Crawford, Johnson)

4. The issue with him is consistency. At Tech there would be times where he would drop 20+ and the next game he struggles to reach double figures. He also doesn't have a great feel for the game at times. There would be moments where he is too unselfish but then there would be times where he is too aggressive. When you look at the kids talent level he really should have done more at Tech.

To be fair to him Paul Hewitt is a terrible terrible coach who did not know what he was doing. His teams are always lost and confused. His teams have no offensive structure and will more often than not have more TO's than assists. Thad Young and Favors went to Tech as top 5 draft picks and both had very frustrating freshman years while they were there (Young went from top 3 to barely being drafted in the lottery). If Shumpert went to UNC he would have been top pick this year or even last year because he would have had a coach who could get the best out of him.

He is very talented and has a lot of potential. I believe he will be a good player for you guys.

Mardy Collins really?

Do some of you realize Iman is the best athlete in the draft?

Mardy is having trouble getting by 37 year olds at the YMCA right now.

When was Mardy Collins ever the athlete this kid is? Seriously, can we give the kid a chance? Let's not act like he can't become a better shooter. None of these guys come in these days without flaws. Let him develop his game and then let's see what we have. Welcome to the Knicks, Iman.
