Yep. Can't argue with back-to-back Final Fours.

I don't know if he makes the team, but I'll reserve judgement.

A bunch of d league guys can do what Mack does. Really wanted rebounding here

Truthfully, my first thought was exactly that.

You gotta hand it to EG. He's certainly executing Leonsis' plan well. Every player drafted in the Leonsis era has been a hard worker who plays with energy and passion. In a couple of years after everyone gets some experience, this group should be a fun team to coach.

Mack is a tough winner - might make an interesting backcourt with Crawford when the starters are resting.

And really, for the second draft in a row, we again got tougher and meaner. This is a good thing. Lots of effort, better D, less knuckleheads all spell for more enjoyable watching, even if they can't shoot to save their lives.

Shelvin Mack will do alot more than any D leaguer could by a MILE. This kid is a EXCELLENT back up to Wall. He is tough and hard. Can score and defende very well. He is a lot better player than Shakur.

Great DRAFT WIZARDS!!
Vesely Singleton Mack

Massive upside + two smart hard working defenders.

Totally agree. They clearly have a game plan from a team culture standpoint - a game plan that I really dig.

I've complained, but I do like Singleton's attitude. Kind of like Jamal Crawford, you can tell the guy likes to play angry. Vesely looks like a cocky dude. Just like Gordon Hayward, he looks all innocent but he's going to throw it down and dunk on guys and embarrass them. NBA players (black) underestimate guys like him. In terms of attitude, I like both guys.

However, IMO what wins is FG efficiency and rebounding (in addition to the defense, that seems to have been addressed somewhat). Washington didn't add shooters or big-time rebounders.

I would have preferred a shooter or a rebounder with the #18.

I thought Singleton was an above average rebounder, no?

not a fan of the mack pick. i think he's overrated and will have a hard time playing the 1. "toughness" is new ernie obsession

would have rather taken williams, jenkins or selby or draft n' stash bertrans.
Until Grunfeld goes there is no rebuild.

go'stags wrote:YES!! I haven't posted much this year, as I have been busy, but I really, really like Shelvin Mack. Tough, hard nosed defender, with some actual game. Good shooter, even off the dribble, and is smart as hell. Butler was one of the smartest college teams I'v seen in a long time, and he was the starting PG. A winner. I had been hoping for a while he would be our pick, and kind of had a feeling he would be selected. Great pick IMO.

Good enough for me. His stats aren't real good, but he's as much a winner as anyone in college basketball. And he looks like a running back - sorta like Vinnie "Microwave" Johnson from the old Pistons. His strength and leaping ability can help make up for some of his lack of height, and he can team with Wall. I see him as an emergency PG and more of a 2 than anything else. Very good guy to have on the roster - though I wouldn't project him ever being a regular rotation player.

I was pulling for Nolan Smith, Kyle Singler, etc in the 2ne because they were people who play hard and know how to win. So a guy who steps into a Nolan Smith type role who helped lead a team to 2 straight Final Fours? I'll take it.

I think two combo guards could work well for our backup team. Mack with Crawford is an interesting pairing.

We're so damn fickle on this board - boarderline schizophrenic. Look back at the draft threads over the past few months and the majority of folks would have been happy with Chris Singleton @18 and Nolan Smith @34. Outside of Vesley (who's impact is still unknown) I thought we did very well. The philosophy entering the draft was to start with intelligent, competitive, mature players and we did exactly that. I'm still undecided about Vesely as I'm unfamilar with his game, but we dramatically improved the culture of the team with this draft. Blatche and McGee better wake up else they'll miss this bus.
