drekwins wrote:Do you guys have any idea how athletic Iman Shumpert really is? Who do you guys consider the most athletic PG in the league? Derrick Rose? Russel Westbrook? Well look at these stats.... As you will see, he is every bit as physically gifted as these guys. Also, hes an 80% shooter from the free throw line and has good form so he should develop a better shot. If you watch him play, he's extremely comfortable with the ball in his hands and has a great dribble. With billups teaching him (just like he taught westbrook and rose in the olympics), he will definitely get better. i LOVE the pick.

Height W/O Shoes
Iman - 6-4 1/4
Rose - 6-1 1/2
Westbrook - 6-2 1/4

No Step Verticle
Iman - 36.5 inches
Rose - 34.5 inches
Westbrook - 30 inches

Max Verticle
Iman - 42 inches
Rose - 40 inches
Westbrook - 36.5 inches

3/4 Court Spring Times
Iman - 3.18
Rose - 3.05
Westbrook - 3.08

Agility Test
Iman - 11.10
Rose - 11.69
Westbrook - 10.98

That's really super impressive.

We go thru this every single year.

Every draft we make our pick. And every draft, nobody likes the pick.

THEN the pick plays and is suddenly a team favorite.

When will we learn to trust the professionals and what they see during workouts, instead of believing individually we all know better than everybody else??

We needed defense. We needed somebody to stop Rondo and Wade from driving to the basket at will. Shumpert is that guy and is a good pick. He and Toney on the floor at the same time will be monsterous. And just like Landry Fields who got booed as last year's pick, Shumpert will surprise you and soon become the team favorite that nobody wants to see traded. How about we at least give our new KNICK a chance!

Welcome to NYC Iman!

not exactly glowing reports

I don't put a lot of stock in that report. The kid just needs to be coached, something he got very little of at GT. Whoever MDA brings in as defensive coach this year, then whoever ends up replacing MDA next year, should make a big difference in Shump's game.

If this kid develops a reliable 3-point shot, he will be a tremendous asset to a winning team, similar to a Raja Bell.

I can't help but feel like Iman Shumpert is the type of name where you look at it in 4-5 years and you say "can you believe they picked him with '____________' still on the board?"

Why dont you ever think about defense? Its always what these guys cant do on offense. Shumpert is the best defending guard in the draft. Brooks is a twig right now who would get bodied up on defense. Hes Jamal Crawford in game and in size.

Shumpert was the only guy that stood out to me among the guards at the combine.... Maybe that's what Walsh saw as well. Maybe we didn't scout the college season much.

I like the Shumpert pick...

defense is a team concept, one great defender doesnt make or break your D + the most imp. piece is a anchor down low

beating others when your primary guy is doubled is a individual thing (aka the open perimeter guy hitting his shot, and at 28%, im not sure this guy can do)

if this kid defends as good as advertised then he's going to fit.

Landry is not a SG. He doesn't have the footspeed to defend the position. He got burned so hard all year off curls and screens. He was a serious liability on defense.

And then we can watch the Celtics pick our defense apart and with Rondo and Allen getting good looks at will.

Complain about D'antoni and the lack of defense, then once we draft a defensive player that you've never seen play, you complain

Brooks shot 34% from three. So is that extra 5% worth the difference in Shumpert's clear athletic/defensive advantage? No. Give me Iman.
