Why dont you ever think about defense? Its always what these guys cant do on offense. Shumpert is the best defending guard in the draft. Brooks is a twig right now who would get bodied up on defense. Hes Jamal Crawford in game and in size.

defense is a team concept, one great defender doesnt make or break your D + the most imp. piece is a anchor down low

beating others when your primary guy is doubled is a individual thing (aka the open perimeter guy hitting his shot, and at 28%, im not sure this guy can do)

What was brooks' percentage pharm?

And then we can watch the Celtics pick our defense apart and with Rondo and Allen getting good looks at will.

Complain about D'antoni and the lack of defense, then once we draft a defensive player that you've never seen play, you complain

i have seen this guy play

he had favors on his team and couldnt do anything

he isn't a PG and won't be handling the ball.

He will be a SG.

Favors wasn't all that impressive at GA Tech himself though.

Shumpert isn't a big name, but this was an excellent pick.

Sure, Jimmer, Kemba, Biyombo, Burks or Leonard would have been better. But, they were gone.

When the Knicks picked, the realistic options were:

Shumpert
Singleton
Brooks
Donatas
Faried

Singleton would have been very interesting. But, he's a 3 who can play some 4. Finding minutes for him would have been really tough. Also, his game isn't very well rounded. Shumpert has a significantly more well rounded game then Singleton.

Similarly, Faried is a really good prospect, but, he just didn't fit. He's pretty much limited to the 4. He can't really play in the same front court with Amar'e.

As for Brooks and Donatas, they need the ball in their hand to be effective. The Knicks have enough scorers already.

I think Shumpert simply provided the best combination of skill and need for the Knicks.

This was my post from the day of the combine...

Shumpert again physically is pretty impressive and has a nice stroke. And of course Fredette. He shoots the ball so effortlessly and has such a nice handle that helps him get separation from defenders. If he can just give effort on defense i think he has a real future.

Not a fan of Faried at all. Nor Morris. And I love Kanter but he's out of reach for us. And vuceic (sp?) is interesting as well.

But right now my top 3 are Fredette, HArper and Shumpert.

Shumpert shot the ball well at the combine maybe Walsh saw the potential to be a good shooter as well....

For the Brooks lovers...

"Probably the most suspect candidate, according to Draft Rater, is Marshon Brooks; his 7.88 rating was 27th among perimeter players. The Providence guard put up huge stats, but his average is hugely padded by two factors: First, the Friars played the fastest pace of any major Division I team; second, Brooks played nearly every minute of every game, averaging 36.5 per game -- remember, they play only 40 in college. Let all the air out and his numbers look a lot more ordinary -- his usage rate, which is his most alluring stat, ranks only ninth among prospects. Given his age (22 and five months) and his relative inefficiency, I'm not sure there's a ton to see here. Draft Rater sees him as a second rounder."

athletic, can finish at the rim, cannot shoot yet. Last time we drafted a guy like this, Trevor Ariza.

Unlike Ariza, he has an NBA body; unlike Ariza, he has a handle; unlike Ariza, he is not soft; unlike Ariza, he has great form on his shot. Yeah...Ariza is not a good NBA comparison at all.

It's a good pick.

not a bad pick considering all the other options are gone. i think he will play the 2 here alongside billups and eventually replace billups as PG
