The draft is over. Now what?
Current 2011-2012 Sacramento Kings roster (pending FA's):
Cousins/Whiteside
Thompson/??
Salmons/Casspi/Garcia/Greene/Honeycutt
Evans/???
Jimmer/Thomas
Current FAs: Thornton, Sammy D, Jackson??
Even with Thornton, we obviously have some MAJOR issues to work out. 5 SF's on a roster? What are we, the Minnesota Timberwolves? That being said, Casspi will probably be on his way out and several sources have said that Sammy D won't be returning.
Which FA's would you like us to target? Who should we look to trade for? What are your expectations for the roster as it is right now?

Re: The draft is over. Now what?
Come on now. Clearly Cisco is backup SG there. Putting him at backup SF is an effort to make this look worse than it is.
With that said, we certainly have some roster balancing to do. I'd look to re-sign Thornton and Sam still, and then would look to trade one of our SFs for a PF (maybe a stretch 4 to be precise). Or maybe not give up hope on Donte being a stretch 4. We'll see.
As I see it, the first priorities are still re-signing Marcus and Sam.

Samuel Dalembert and Thornton. Resigning them is the next step.

Wrong. Westfail repeated said that he liked Garcia at SF instead of SG, and even said that the team started to play better when he was starting at SF.

Re: The draft is over. Now what?
Just gonna say it again. I've lost a ton of faith in Petrie. Traded down for an older, more expensive, worse player who didn't fit last time and doesn't now, and cost us a shot at Brandon Knight while at it. Took a guy I really don't like who we COULD HAVE had at #7 anyways. I just don't get it. I really, really don't get it.
I really, really hope I'm wrong about Jimmer but I think he's gonna be a role player at best.
Our secod round was great though. Honeycutt and Thomas will both be good benchies me thinks.

The team played better because we got Thorton and Evans was healthy.

Well sure, but don't tell Westfail that

Re: The draft is over. Now what?
Honestly I don't think we really need to do anything beyond resign Thornton and Dalembert. I'm not seeing the roster imbalance that is supposedly making people grab their pitchforks.
Tyreke/Jimmer
Thornton/Garcia
Salmons/Greene/Casspi
Cousins/Jackson
Dalembert/Thompson
Thats a much improved roster from last year's team that went 6-5 to end the year, especially with the assumed development of guys like Tyreke, Cousins, Thornton, Thompson and Greene.

The most important thing right now is to sign Thornton. He made the games way more fun to watch and carried us offensively at times. I think he is just as important to this team as dmc and evans.
D
Im not opposed to signing dally as long as he doesn't get a big contract, but I wouldn't be crushed if we let him walk or he signed elsewhere.
Everyone agreea that The logjam at the three should and will be resolved. Im sure that petrie is going wait
Til free agency is over and then make deals according to what is left of need.
Does any one know when the resigning of fas starts?

Well when your other options are "won't defend" and "can't shoot" the guy that does both typically looks pretty good for you at that spot.

In all fairness, casspi wasnt a "wont defend" player... he was a "cant defend" player. he definitely tries defensively and at times shows the most hustle and heart then anyone on this team

Welcome! After watching that Petrie press conference KF10 posted in the other thread he pretty much confirmed IMO that Thornton will be back. He said Jimmer can play with both Evans and Thornton, and he can.
Didn't mention Daly but he said they would make other moves and had to keep catching himself and say or "additions". IMO the guys that you might not see back next year are any of Casspi, Greene, Thompson, Daly, or Garcia. He said they ARE NOT done making moves. First time I've seen him so transparent.
Signing FA's usually starts in the beginning of July but with that possibly being the first lockout day that won't be happening until that's resolved.

Re: The draft is over. Now what?
Wait what? Thompson is going no where. We have absolutely no one to replace him, and as for right now, he's our starting PF. Plus, he's injured.
It will be interesting to see what happens to Garcia, though. He doesn't have a bad contract, but no one is going to be jumping up and down to get him. Personally, I think we played very well with Evans/Thornton/Garcia to end the year. So much for that...

There is no difference between SG and SF. He was saying that to discuss him starting next to Tyreke. He'll play much more at SG this year.

Re: The draft is over. Now what?
If there is no difference between SG and SF, then how could we didn't we keep Beno and roll out a Beno/Evans/Thornton starting lineup, with Jimmer/Garcia/Honeycutt to back them up?

Re: The draft is over. Now what?
Not if we think Salmons is the better player. That and there is a difference in terms of size, and that lineup would be pretty small.
