lol@ the thought of him and carmelo playing bully ball against one another. d'antoni might have to go the football route and give carmelo and amar'e red jerseys.

If D'Antoni doesn't, someone will get hurt lol...Harrellson loves playing physical.

Yeah he can steal Bosh's dress and cut it up into jeanshorts. :D

Harrellson will eat someone's baby also...another prediction.

Yes, a goon is desperately needed. The team should fund all of his techs and give him bonuses whenever he takes down a Heat player. I want to see Chritine Be-otch curled up in a fetal position next to the basket stanchion, sucking his thumb.

Hes more than a goon, hes a guy who doesnt back down on defense and takes pride in being the teams big man.

what, suddenly hes a scrub and we dont want that kind of guy?

remember he was the starting center for Kentucky all season. Hes good enough to take seriously.

at the very least we need big guys to challenge opponents bigs. at the most he can really help us.

He might be like a Pryzbilla kind of player. Doesnt he shoot like 75% from the field? That means he only takes good shots.

I hear the pick we bought to get him only cost $750,000. So to get a goon like this is a no brainer. He's big and wide and can clog it up in the paint. All we need from him is a few quality minutes of toughness to grab boards, take a few (hard) fouls, play D, and he's a steal!

Did you bother reading the Thread? He's been compared to Hustle or Touch guys like DLee and Kurt Thomas in here.

Which I'll glaaaaaaaaaaaaadly take! :D

I mean in a couple of Years, this guy can be our new Ronny Turiaf off the Bench (which would be a STEAL in this Weakened Draft)

Yeah, he reminds me of a cross between DLee & KT.

I thought Harrellson had the temperment of a KT. Just has that crazy glare in his eyes, gives hard fouls with no apology and goes full tilt, practice or game day. It's just what the Knicks need.

My only concern is that he's gotta lose more weight. I know his improved conditioning played a big part in his tournament run, but my guess is as he continued to lose more weight through the season, his game improved. Getting down to 260 or less has to be a goal for him.

I like the pick and the jorts nickname seems to add a tinge of destiny which makes it seem like a perfect fit. But just playing devils advocate, let's temper the mix here a little here. It's a lot easier said than done to find a guy who can play that role. It's more of a mental thing though. Most b-ball players dont' have the will to play like that all the time nor can they lower their ego to accept that kind of role. He appears to have the gumption to handle the role so I'm hopeful at least...

I liked the pick. he brings some toughness and edginess A guy that will be down low and fight for everything. As people have said, the idea of playing bully ball with him and Melo would be fun to watch. We've got some guys who will fight for everything and bang into you. I like it.

[size=120]Don't care. We NEED a tough-guy like him. The last one we had was Kurt. He can rack up time with Rautins in the D-League for all I care, but he's going to at least get a TON of chances down there in the NBDL and here on our Team.

He's a cross IMO between DLee and Kurt Thomas.

Except for being slower, fatter and less skilled than either Lee or Thomas, I agree.

If he can become a Jon Brockman type producer (who IMHO he might come closest to being compared to as far as what role he'll server in the NBA) I'd be exstatic.

Kurt Thomas would be amazing, but I just don't see it. Different mold.

Like someone else said, I see a bit of Pryzbilla in him, which I'm certainly fine with.

Przybilla before the knees went was actually a quite agile and mobile 7 footer. If he can get in better condition he could be a Jon Brockman type guy who goes in there, plays physical, doens't back down and bring some fight.

Here's some more Harrellson reading...

NBA Draft caps 'impossible' turnarounds of Harrellson, Liggins

Maybe we shouldn't be surprised by the selection of Josh Harrellson on Thursday night by the New York Knicks with the 45th overall pick in the 2011 NBA Draft. Perhaps we should have known all along that the Orlando Magic would select DeAndre Liggins with the 53rd pick when he announced he was leaving Kentucky a year early.

But when it actually happened at the Prudential Center in Newark, N.J., particularly when Harrellson's named showed up seemingly out of nowhere on the draft board, this writer couldn't help but pick up his jaw off the floor.

Before the year, Harrellson was as likely to be drafted in the NFL as he was in the NBA. He averaged a measly 1.3 points and 1.2 rebounds his junior season and was relegated to a bathroom stall during one of his games his sophomore year.

But as the NCAA Tournament wore on and Harrellson won matchups with Ohio State's Jared Sullinger and North Carolina's Tyler Zeller, Harrellson started to warrant draft consideration and earned workouts with NBA teams.

"That's a good pick for them," Liggins said of the Knicks drafting Harrellson. "He worked his butt off to get to where he got at. I'm proud of him."

Harrellson couldn't be reached for comment Thursday night, but he sent out a tweet sending his appreciation to all of his fans.

"Headed to New York tomorrow morning..." Harrellson said on Twitter. "Thank you everyone for all your support through the years I couldn't be more proud!! Love the #BBN(.)"

"If you work hard, you never know what's going to happen, and that's what me and Josh did," Liggins said. "We worked our tails off. We know who we are."

 Did you use Brockman too? Great minds you know...

Honestly though it really is the closest comparison to someone that is in the NBA already.

I would take a Jon Brockman type player especially since Brockman is only 6-8 and Harrellson is 6-10.

Harrellson also tested out to not be a terrible athlete either. I understand he will always be a below the rim player, but if he can drop 10-15 lbs and lose the body fat he could be a decent backup / 3rd string Center.

He rebounds well and takes up space. He compliments Jerome Jordan well at the center position too.

Brockman is build like a beast and has always been in better condition than Harrellson. If "Woody" (is that his official nickname now?) can keep working on getting stronger, leaner and just overall more fit yeah it would be nice. Those 2 inches don't really matter much and if Woody can even get to Brockman level then I'd be fine with it. But that's basically what we're talking about. A guy that will earn his keep by doing what Brockman does is what we're talking about here. That's his bread and better. To expect him to score or to rebound or to do much of anything else is a bit unfair and unrealistic and just setting yourself up for dissapointment.
