Future draft picks

Post#1 » by LockdownDefense » Fri Jun 24, 2011 11:49 am

Im really excited about the draft and the direction of the Bobcats. I hope they stay away from free agency for a few years and just collect young talent. I dont think we want to get mediocre too fast, just be really bad for a couple years and hopefully get some luck in the lottery. This is kind of the same strategy OK City had, a similar small market team.

Since we are now in rebuilding mode, I am curious about our future draft pics.

What picks do we have from other teams and do they have any restrictions? Also, have we traded any of our own future picks away and do they have any restrictions?

  Well Right now we don't have any pick in 1st round of 2012. We traded it to Chicago in TT Deal last year..Even though its protected we are really going to have to suck.

We have two picks next year. Ours will be top 5 ish and the Portland one will be mid 20s.

Harrison Barnes is going to look real good in a Bobcats jersey this time next year.

Hell yeah that late first will be very valuable in next year's amazing draft too.

We will probably get more for Diaw & DJ.

Am now just staring at some 2012 mocks....

I hope our late first is John Henson!!!

That would be 2 homerun drafts in a row!!!

Walker/Hendo/Barnes/Henson/Biyombo

Now that team has all-world potential & is perfectly balanced.

Henson and Biz would be horrible together.

Yeah get Barnes, then with Portland's pick go for that 6th man ala James Harden. I think that's possible for next year.

The problem with the draft next year is that there really aren't many good 6'10"+ post scorers. The closest thing is probably Zeller. He miiiight be a nice fit next to BB (I'd love watching both of them sprint up and down the floor beating their man) but I don't think he's available around 23ish.

Best to wait for a guy like Drummond 2 drafts from now.

He's not 6'10" but Sullinger sure can get it done in the post?

Maybe next draft should be the "target the offensive SF" draft?

Of course he can. But 6'8'' and 6'9'' (regardless of wingspan) just doesn't get it done.

Above, I was talking under the impression that we target nobody but Barnes with our top 5 pick. That's why I said I don't think Zeller falls to 23.

Kemba
Hendo
Barnes
BB or ?
BB or?

is fine, use that 23rd on a John Jenkins or Jeremy Lamb as a super sub and pick any of the rising HS senior bigs in 2013--Drummond or Tarczwhatever his name is

Our weakness, depth-wise, is small forward currently but next year's draft should solve that problem easily. It seems like there could be at least 12 small forwards in the first round alone. Obviously I like Harrison Barnes the most but we'll see in a year from now.

The Portland pick won't come in until 2013, I think.

Defiantly looking SF next draft. And I don't want to give too much credit to our FO, but I wouldn't be surprised if they looked at the prospects next draft and that is part of why they went PG and C THIS draft and not SF. The guys that figure to be there are great.

Harrison Barnes
James Mcadoo
Perry Jones
Quincy Miller
Michael Gilchrist

Unfortunately Macadoo and Miller both play with Barnes and Jones, so 2 of those 4 will not be getting the majority of there minutes at SF next year but will likely project as a SF in the draft. Absolutely HATE Carolina, with a passion, but right now boy wouldn't it look good if we could nab Barnes. We would probably have to be 1 or 2 for that though, the way it could shape up. Still an incredibly long time until the draft though, for all we know Barnes may fall off the face of the earth. But just to get an idea, there should be some very good star power SF's next draft.

• Charlotte trades a 2012 first round draft pick (top 14 protected in 2012, top 12 protected in 2013, top 10 protected in 2014, top 8 protected in 2015, unprotected in 2016) to Chicago as part of the Tyrus Thomas trade.
• Charlotte trades a 2016 second round pick (top 55 protected) to San Antonio as part of the Theo Ratliff trade.

Don't like Gilchrist, he doesn't have enough offensive polish for me. Perry Jones is an athlete, nothing more. He'd be a PF anyway. McAdoo will be another tweener type, more so towards the PF side, and Quincy Miller is nursing a torn ACL (no thanks).

Barnes, Brad Beal (if we don't like Hendo), and Maybe Terrence Jones (if he develops a more rounded offensive game) and Adonis Thomas are our only true targets, barring a meteoric rise by someone else.

Who are the elite prospects in the high school class of '13?

I love Gilchrist btw, he has massive heart, a high motor & his defense & rebounding are very impressive.

He sounds like a role player except he has all-world athleticism & the potential to develop a devastating offensive game.

I believe he projects as a 2/3 once his handle improves, he is already a willing passer.

Walker/Gilchrist/Barnes/TT/BB

Awesome Team
