Cavs / Pacers swap

Post#1 » by ChrisTheFuturePaul » Fri Jun 24, 2011 7:12 am

Cleveland Send: Baron Davis / JJ Hickson, 2012 first rounder (top 7 protected, unprotected 2013)

Pacers Send: Danny Granger / James Posey

Hibbert
Hickson/Hansborough
George
Hill / Rush
B Davis / Collison

Varajao / Hollins
T. Thompson
Granger / Posey
Gee / Harris
Irving / Sessions

Why? Indiana get an upgrade at power forward and Baron's contract expires 1 year before Grangers, frees up George to play his natural position. For Cleveland they get a "goto" guy, and give Thompson a chance to prove he was the right choice at #4 and make their season a little less depressing fielding a semi-decent team.

Thoughts?

I think thats a horrible trade for Indiana. Granger loves playing for Indy and is on a reasonsable contract, whereas Davis plays at our deepest position and is over the hill. Hickson is nice, but this isn't an appropriate trade for him.

Basically, we've just made the playoffs and the FO are trying to build a winner, and moving Granger doesn't do anything to thay end. Having drafted Thompson at 4, I doubt Cleveland want a 3 anyway.

If Cleveland left out Davis, added Varejao and removed the protection on the pick, I'd probably say yes.

Horrrrrible. Nothing like having Baron "play when I want to Davis" to take away minutes from Hill and Collison. And we have to give up Granger? No thanks. I would, however, not mind getting Hickson or the Cavs unprotected pick next year.

Could this be a joke?
Rationally, the Pacers would never do this trade.
Another point guard after getting George Hill?
Please think a while before you make a suggestion.

I prefer a line-up of:

Collison
George
Granger
Hansbrough
Hibbert

with
Hill
Rush
Jones
and a couple of FA bigs coming off the bench.

I don't like the idea of sending Granger anywhere. Baron Davis is starting to become insignificant in the league and JJ Hickson is on and off.

I can see trading with Cavs but this isn't it at all. we have no interest in moving any of our core players. I would give up Rush or D Jones for Hickson or Hollins if you need a two and feel you have too many bigs, and I'd go Posey for Varejao if you want a contract that expires a year sooner.

I would be very happy with AV. I don't see us getting him for Posey though.
What would it take?

Sounds good to me, will the Cavs take that?

No.

I seriously doubt it anyways.

I'd do it if they would... but they wouldn't.
