Re: Expectations & Ceiling of Jimmer Fredette
He's comparable to an older Bibby. Circa 06, when Bibby started to fall in love with the 3 and wasn't really interested in ever penetrating. This was also when he was more slow-footed (with his added bulk) and therefore was at his worst defensively.
Not so much like a younger Bibby who was quicker, better defensively (could be called "average" at one point), more of a floor general and a better penetrator. Also relied more on his mid-range game. This actually meant less efficient scoring, but I felt it was more effective. Then again, this one was also playing off of Vlade and Chris instead of an aging Brad Miller.

Thats ridiculous...Jimmer is twice the athlete Beno is and ever was...
Ceiling for rookie year: 12 ppg, 3 assists, 44% shooting, 39% from 3
Expectation for Career: 16ppg, 6 assists, 3 boards, less than 1 steal on 46% shooting, 40% from 3.

Re: Expectations & Ceiling of Jimmer Fredette
Bibby somewhat but I think the cross between Thornton and Bibby is a much better comparison. Fredette is a much better off the dribble shooter and he's a lot bigger and more physical when going to the rim than Bibby.
Rookie season expectation: Bring energy, floor spreading, and spot shooting off the bench.
Ceiling: Depends on his role but I think he could easily be a guy that flirts with 20 ppg if he's a focal point of an offense. 18-20 and 5 type. Still, it all depends on what you need out of him. I think as a Kings version of James Harden, Jason Terry, or a more explosive scoring JJ Barea is a good comparison for his future with the Kings unless he's clearly a better fit next to Tyreke than Thornton.

I wouldn't count on those types of percentages right out of the gate. It's certainly possible there as with most rookies there will be some period of transition.

I feel like people love to underrate Jimmer. He's easily better than Jason Williams and could easily be as good or better than Bibby. His ceiling is sky high. Anyone with his range immediately becomes faster and bigger. He will make Tyreke better and he'll really make Cousins better. He'll add the dimension guys like Bibby and Stojakovic did back in the day. A guy that can stick an open jumper playing off the ball. What separates Jimmer from a guy like Beno is he can get his own shot and stretch the floor. Not to mention he'll at least attempt to play defense. We should all be excited about this pick.

Re: Expectations & Ceiling of Jimmer Fredette
I feel like he's already being overrated in here. Something like Terry would be a good comparison. Terry used to be kind of a PG earlier in his career, so there's that. Although he was also a lot quicker than Jimmer is.
I'm sticking by an older Bibby.
Beno isn't a good comparison though. Beno is the much better finisher around the basket and Jimmer is the much better outside shooter.

Re: Expectations & Ceiling of Jimmer Fredette
I think you guys are all vastly overrating Jimmer Fredette.
I think his career ceiling is a decent backup guard.
If he's extremely lucky he might make 6th man of the year, but that would be the best case scenario, in my mind. He's a scorer, and that's all he is. One dimensional guys like that are usually pretty easily shut down in the NBA.
If he averages double digit points in his rookie year, I'll be highly surprised.

Funny how you never said that about Kevin Martin.

1. He plays nothing like Jason Williams at all, other than falling in love with the "let's jack up 30 foot three point shots on the break"
2. Jimmer played with the ball in his hands his entire College career, so where's the evidence that he's suddenly going to become this great "off the ball" player?
3. Jimmer will at LEAST attempt to play defense? Have you ever watched him play?! Beno always TRIED to play defense, he just wasn't any good at it.

If you've seen Jimmer play, from an offensive perspective he's less one dimensional than either Knight or Walker. The guys can score in just about every way possible. When you add in that he as some PG skills goodbye to being 1 dimensional. Now you can argue talent, I personally think Walker could possibly be the best of the 3, but I do think they'll all be good and probably in the same neighborhood when all said and done. It's like the Kings passed up that playmaking PG that some seem to think this team needs when ALL OF THEM are scoring PG's. They are all basically cut from the same cloth. Defense is the question but it's not like Jimmer doesn't have them beat in certain other areas.

Not even remotely the same. Sometimes perhaps, but at least Jimmer has shown he can actually hit them unlike when White Chocolate was jacking up 500 3's in a season.
I just recently watched about 5-7 BYU games from this last year and you'd be surprised at how much Jimmer played without the ball. They ran a very system based offense involving post play, screens, and he actually played with another ball handler in Jackson Emery for a good chunk of the time. Emery plays more like a true PG. The system wasn't just based on drive and kick or guard offense, a LOT of ball movement and team play for what you would think by the stats. Now Jimmer would get his fair share of play calls but he didn't dominate the ball like you think he did. At least not all the time.
Defensively I'm not sure what I saw. A few weeks ago I said that once a guard penetrated to a point Jimmer would completely let him go and there was a lot of funneling to his bigs going on. If his man got anywhere to the side of him he would throw his arms up in almost an exaggerated motion kind of like a signal to the refs that there was no way he was going to foul so don't call it. I figured the better evidence to look at would be his ability to fight through screens in order to see if he got repeatedly hung up on the screener because that would better illustrate either an inability to get through, or a lack of determination. It was hard to tell because they play so much zone in college but I didn't see any major red flags either.

Re: Expectations & Ceiling of Jimmer Fredette
Jimmer hasn't proven ANYTHING yet, since he hasn't played one minute in the NBA yet. Just because he could do it in college doesn't mean jack.

I swear the Kings could literally have a time machine and draft MJ and Kings fans would complain that we didn't draft Bowie.
