they are nothing alike, the weight and standing reach differential are huge.

5 inch standing reach difference is huge. That's what people don't understand when you have someone like Horford guarding Dwight or JJ Redick guarding Wade even though they may only be about an inch apart in height.

The only problem with what is being said here is that would mean Benson has a huge advantage over Joakim Noah. The numbers can't be the end-all-be-all. They only indicate potentialities.

And Benson's numbers say he has a chance. We just HAVE to keep giving opportunities to players like that.

Who knows? One day, maybe we'll have the scouting to make it work.

FWIW-Noah claimed to have a shoulder injury around the time of the combine which affected his standing reach numbers.

I did some research and found 5 players that Benson has physical advantages over across the board. Noah is not one of them by the way because Noah has a better no step vertical than Benson.

1. Troy Murphy- Benson is taller, longer and has better athleticism across the board than Murphy. He also is stronger than Murphy was coming out of college. Benson lifted 185 12 x's to 11. Murphy averaged 5.9 pts and 3.9 rebs per game as a rookie in 17 mins:41 secs.

2. Jarron Collins- Benson is taller, longer and has better athleticism across the board and he also beat him 10 to 12 as far as lifting the weight so you could say that he is even possibly stronger. Collins averaged 6.4 pts and 4.2 rebs as a rookie in 20mins:36secs

3. Nick Collison- Benson is taller, longer and has better athleticism across the board and he beat him in the strength category 8 to 12. Collison averaged 5.7 pts and 4.6 rebounds in 17 mins as a rookie

4. Al Jefferson- Benson is taller, longer and has better athleticism across the board and he beat in the strength category 3 to 12 when both were about to be drafted. Al averaged 6.7 pts and 4.4 rebounds as a rookie in 14mins:48seconds

5. Chris Bosh- Benson is 6"10 in shoes to Bosh 6"10.25. Benson 6"11 in shoes, Bosh 6"11.5 or atleast thats what they say. Benson is longer and with better athleticism than Bosh had coming out of college he also beat him 9 to 12 in the strength contest. Bosh averaged 11.5 pts and 7.4 rebs in 33mins:30seconds as a rookie.

Now, we can do away with the Bosh categories because it is highly doubtful that Drew would play him 30 minutes even if he was clearly better than Horf at Center.

So, take the other 4 rookie minutes and averages and say 6.175 pts and 4.275 rebounds a game in 17 minutes a night is realistic. The problem will be getting 17 minutes next year when Zaza played 15.41 minutes last year to give you 4.4 pts and 4.2 rebounds.

Lastly, Bosh was listed as 225 and Murphy was listed 230 pounds so I think if Benson is only 217 he needs to simply gain atleast 10 pounds and go into training camp atleast 227 pounds and he could make a difference. If he can protect the rim and give Zaza numbers or better I would prefer him over Zaza.

I'd love to see that research - it sounds useful. By the way, what's a "standing vertical?"

Are you talking about standing reach?
No-step vertical leap?
Max vertical reach?

No step vertical I meant. Standing vertical ha ha.

You basically have to use two different windows put the link up in 2 different windows and single in on Benson. You will see he is better than the above players across the board. I only looked at players whom he was as strong as or stronger when drafted. 12 reps was like a benchmark since people are claiming that he is weak or too light in the pants. Like I say he does need to be between 225 to 230 to have a chance of doing this because the above players were between 225 and 263. Look at him versus Stoudemire and you will be surprised also.

I'm reading it wrong, somehow. It seems to me Benson has a no-step vertical reach of 11'9" while Noah had 11'7".

What did I do wrong?

Oh, I am looking at simple no step vert Benson is 31.5 to Noah's 32. You are correct about the no step vert reach because Benson is notably longer than Noah so when jumps and extends his arms he is way up over Noah but Noah jumps a little higher off the ground. I can see how no step vert reach could be more important than simple no step because you have to extend your arms to get the ball for rebounding. He is above the ones I listed in everything, Noah has him beat by a little with the no step vert but his length makes up for it
