Experts Love Jazz Draft
If you scour the internet, you'll see most "experts" love what the Jazz have done.
nbadraft.net gave the Jazz their highest grade, an A for getting both Kanter and Burks.
Jay Bilas said the Jazz were the biggest winners because of how well we did in our acquisitions.
Charles Barkley said he had Kanter as the top prospect in the draft and thought the Jazz won for getting him at 3.
Yahoos gave the Jazz an A in their Ball Don't Lie blog.
Chard Ford also gave the Jazz an A for their draft.
Just so you know, usually we don't win drafts like this but seemingly everyone loves what we did.

I enjoy the publicity in the sense that this will only give the Jazz their due respect as an organization. Utah and the Utah Jazz have always been an afterthought in the hivemind of NBA fanatics I think. On the the other hand I don't think this is very telling of how our picks are going to turn out. I'm weary to say that Burks and Kanter are going to hit their ceiling and the Jazz will be on the up and up to a road of recovery. Don't get me wrong, I'm really loving our choices we made in the draft but it always seems the hype machine turns on itself when it comes to the draft.

Bill Simmons wrote:7:51 -- Utah takes Turkish banger Enes Kanter, a dead ringer from the one-armed man from The Fugitive. That pick was a big hit in our room, and not just because (a) Kanter scored 34 points at the 2010 Nike Hoop Summit, (b) he wants to be a WWE wrestler after he retires, and (c) we liked his interview with Mark Jones. I have a good feeling about that guy. Right team, right fit. Somehow this leads us to start talking about whether it's an easy transition to go from Turkey (a religious place with good-looking women) to Salt Lake City (a religious place with good-looking women). "Turkey is a little more open-minded about religion," Wildes decides. "Could be a tougher adjustment." These are the things you talk about during the NBA draft.

It all sounds like the kiss of death to me. It's time to start worrying. We better trade the new guys before they fail to impress.

I still dont get it how JazzFans, or peps from Utah( i guess its mean the same but i want to be precisely

ps. Kanter and Burks are great prospects but i still think that getting Fredette would satisfy much more important Jazz needs.

Why are you even still talking about Jimmer? Jimmer is a King and there's nothing we can do about it.
Honestly, the Jazz lucked out by not having to pick or pass on Jimmer.

Lucked out! I'll bet there wasn't any luck involved. The Jazz probably gave S. Kings something under the table to take the boy and save all of us from Jimmer scores 5, Millsap has 40 and Hayward 33, but the interview minutes are 30 seconds Millsap and Hayward, and 10 minutes Jimmer.

Some random thoughts:
- Fredette will end up with one of the most solid careers of this class; the "experts" got it right this time I think, but it'n not our business anymore
- Kanter will be what Fesenko should have been; in this dfart class this should be wonderfull
- Burks talents are great; if his attitude's fine I think the steel of the draft award will be between him, Singleton and Hamilton

I remember when I used to go to dfart class. Too bad I didn't have a cool cell phone like I do now to enjoy dfart class more...

Word is, South Beach is ecstatic that they
won't be seeing Millsaps talents again this season...

Re: Experts Love Jazz Draft
Is it just me or does everyone else think that since we had two picks in the lottery, we pretty much were destined to have 'A' grades if we didn't 'reach' for someone in the general public's eye?
Both of the picks made a whole lot of sense for the Jazz in each of their spots, and they were both lottery picks addressing needs (which there were, and still are, plenty of).
Seems like as long as we didn't reach for anyone at the 12 we'd have pretty much gotten positive draft reviews regardless.
I even see a ton of people giving the Cavs an A. Solely because they had two top 4 picks and used the top one on the consensus #1 prospect, despite the fact that they have like 3 starting caliber PF's already and drafted two more.

Does he elaborate or provide any context for the comment? Is it because AK is a free agent and he is supposed to be our best defender? Or does it have to do something with the picks?

Re: Experts Love Jazz Draft
Its because he has been on the war path against Enes Kanter since around...hmmm, about January. What he fails to understand is that any minutes Enes plays will be in relief of Al Jefferson, who is one of the 10 worst big man defenders in the league. Even a clueless rook would have a hard time not matching that.
As for our grades....I like it. Usually when there's a consensus about a team doing well in the draft, its because they did so well that no one can question it. The unanimity here is the key, and I do think its a good sign. The last time we got this good of a review was 2006, which was probably the best draft we've had from top to bottom since I've been following the team. I like this one quite a bit, too, even though I would have much preferred Singleton to Burks.

Those paying attention probably know that I've been a huge Givony "apologist" but even I think that tweet (which I originally posted in the draft thread) is most likely, sadly, motivated by Givony's anti-Kanter bias. It just reeks of (premature) "I told ya so"

Re: Experts Love Jazz Draft
It really is weird. He can deny it all he wants, but there is obviously something going on there. The ridiculous double standard he applied in his evaluation of Bismack Biyombo versus Kanter reveals that past a shadow of a doubt, and the way that he has taken shots like the one above just make him sound like a petulant child. Which is all very unlike him. He has done so much for the NBA draft world that its a shame to see him engaging in crap like that. Hopefully we'll find out whats behind it eventually.

Re: Experts Love Jazz Draft
I think Givony is telling the flat out truth. Theres no double standard because I too like bismack but don't like Kanter. With Bismack, i can look up many of his games and see how he plays to determine if I like him or not (which I do) but with kanter I can only speculate what he will be (not liked anything he did in the highlights either). What happened the last time we had to speculate.... Darko happened. I know the Jazz have seen tons of stuff on Enes but remember Darko was widely considered to be the concensus #2 pick behind Lebron and scouts looked at him about as much as they did enes; so its not like this type of scenerio hasn't happened before. And I don't care if you don't think enes is like Darko or Enes may grow better with the Jazz than Darko did with the pistons, it doesn't change that it happened and very likely could happen again.
As for his defense, he could be worst than Jefferson for all you guys know (as hard as that is to believe). Plus he's factoring in no Kirilenko.

Re: Experts Love Jazz Draft
well except that both guys are good prospects they are not known as even solid defenders. Its not about liking or disliking Jazz picks, but Kanter/Burks wont make that team good in def, at least not any time soon.
