BTW the youtube you posted is MUCH more debatable than the gif in the OP. He looks like he spins and jumps off two feet there, never having lifted his initial pivot foot.

lol... So if you establish your right foot as pivot foot, you can hop along on your one, left leg all the way down the court and it isn't a travel?
As others have said, the rule as quoted above takes for granted that once a pivot foot has been established, it cannot be changed, and the only way to "leave it" is to jump to shoot or pass. Switching your pivot to then jump to shoot or pass is a travel.
What are you talking about? He NEVER established his right foot as his pivot foot. Here is another example of Kobe doing what he did in the gif, it's perfectly legal.
thats a travel.
sometimes it happens fast, refs dont see it, but that doesnt mean its not a travel.
this one is not as bad as cause he jumps with both feet almost at same time. still a travel, but not as obvious as the 1st one.

Nothing is even debatable. Neither the gif or the video is a travel. It's a clean fundamental move.

yes, that's his penis. he just tucked it inside the flesh on his leg during the game.

Its a fundamental move actually, taught everywhere, practiced everywhere, lmao.
Seriously, some of yall needa play more ball and get in official games yourselves instead of arguing over who hates a player or a team and who's a fan of another, lol.
Exactly... this move is taught everywhere. My coach runs these type of fundamental moves every practice with the team

The question that needs to be answered is if the jump counts as a step.
If it's considered a step when he takes off, travel.
If it's considered a step when he lands, not a travel.

It doesn't count as a step since his pivot foot didn't come back down, and he shot the ball.

Re: Is this a travel?
why do people keep saying he's "changing his pivot foot"? It's called taking a step. Basically, if you establish a pivot foot, you're allowed to take one step (with your other foot, as long as the pivot foot doesn't come back down), no?
He's not "walking into another pivot foot" (what a dumb statement) because he's not using his right foot as a pivot foot. You don't see him pivoting on that foot and the left foot never comes down.

Of course its a travel. I don't blame the ref though. When the ref hears all the Uhh's, he sure as hell doesnt want to hear all the Boo's after he calls it.

Damn, I wish I had coaches that taught me fundamental moves like blatantly switching my pivot foot.

Grim, please tell me how it's a travel if you clearly say he jumps with both feet at the same time?

not sure if u srs about knowing bball rules.
when u establish pivot foot (left or right) ur allowed to pviot around it. ur none pivot foot CANT BE ON THE FLOOR IF YOUR PIVOT FOOT IS IN THE AIR. thats a travel.
as simple as that.

Uh, yes, it can, as long as the pivot foot in the air doesn't come back down before shooting or passing.
From the rule book:
If a player, with the ball in his possession, raises his pivot foot off the floor, he must pass or shoot before his pivot foot returns to the floor

You're not getting it. The fact that he never actually "pivots" off his right foot is irrelevant. He lifted his dribble, and established his LEFT foot as his pivot foot. You can't then take another step onto your other foot to jump. You just can't. And, yes, it's called a travel often on every level. Not every time, but often.

That would be considered an up and down in the rule book. So if you combine both rules, he can basically lift his pivot foot with his other foot planted, but not land his pivot foot back down.

Thats leaving both your feet off the ground with the ball and coming back down with the ball, which obviously results in a travel.
I think Im done explaining basic basketball knowledge to some of yall who clearly have never played organized ball. These kinda arguments pretty much tell you who are the ones that are just fanatics, trynna root for anything, not really being involved with it.
