At the very least it will be interesting to see how Fredette handles all this pressure. Tough to be the an icon off the bench. If he outplays Thornton or Evans then decisions will have to be made.

It was pretty well known that Walker would be there at 7 most likely, and apparently that the Jazz were screwing up the order by taking Kanter so it's probably not likely that they were going, "crap! Knight fell!!!".

I guess that's true, maybe. But the Cleveland/Toronto situation really through a wrench into what people were expecting.

Jimmer. :blank:

Depends how you define a fall. When someone projected to go top 3 and no lower than 5 goes 8; that's a fall. You could tell by the look on his face when he got drafted and his comments about making people pay that passed on him.

Jimmer actually when higher than many mock drafts had him so I would call that a rise not a fall.

paul pierce fall to #10 pick overall, he also projected top pick, pierce had the same comments about making team pay that passed on him. i like that kind of attitude. last year DMC pay teams that passed on him.

Cleveland was still never going to take another guard. Toronto and Cleveland were associated with two names, and they were bigs who went before Walker and Knight: Valanciunas and Biyombo. Knight fell because Utah went with Kanter, simple as that. Word got out the day before they were most likely going with Kanter if Kahn was blowing smoke, which he was, so it was all right there. I'm sure Petrie talked to the teams to make sure who would be where most likely. You don't trade down to watch all the players you want go in front of you. He may have been hoping Walker fell, which word is it was between Walker and Jimmer, but Knight? Probably not.

What Mitch is talking about is Cleveland not taking Valanciunas, which allowed Toronto to take him instead of going with Knight.

Exactly.

Again - I wish someone would push Petrie into an honest question regarding who was his BPA and guy he wanted in this draft.

I find it very hard to believe that he'll pick Jimmer at 7 for example, if Knight fell - cause again I think our FO figured Knight is as untouchable as Kyrie, and will either go 3rd to Utah or 5th to Toronto.

but when raptors hired dwane casey as their new head coach, all of the sudden bigman pick becames hot on raptors camp. thats why i mention before better to keep the pick, kemba walker will be available at #7, and theres also a chance that knight will fall to #7 too. utah was 50/50 on knight or kanter, if utah passed on knight he will fall to #7 for sure. thats why im very disapointed when we trade the pick before the draft begin.

WELL.... yahoo sports give the kings a "D+" grade on this year draft. good job maloofs and company

Depends on who you ask at Yahoo..

By landing Fredette, the Kings helped lead a list of winners on draft night. More importantly, they hope Fredette can help them generate ticket and sponsorship revenue and spearhead support for a new arena in Sacramento.

“I know they are going to be there one more year and see how it goes,” Fredette said. “I hope the fans come out and support us. I hope they like our team. I think we will have a very exciting team and I hope we can get more wins. Winning translates to getting more fans out there, and hopefully we’ll be able to keep the organization there.”

The Kings also made a wise move by deciding to play combo-guard Tyreke Evans(notes) off the ball. Fredette will likely open next season as the Kings’ starting point guard after Beno Udrih(notes) was dealt to Milwaukee in the trade. Evans, the 2010 NBA Rookie of the Year, certainly has the size and scoring ability to play shooting guard. The Kings also got a steal with the last overall pick in the draft in gritty point guard Isaiah Thomas. Fredette, Evans, Thomas and the likely re-signed Marcus Thornton(notes) give Sacramento a young and talented collection of guards for years to come

Exactly I wouldn't worry too much about what the national media guys are saying about our draft and the trade. As I mentioned earlier, Sacramento is small market West Coast team meaning a lot of those guys rarely (if ever) watch entire Kings games.

I've heard extremes on both sides I think Chad Ford gave us an A+ on the draft but bashed us on the trade. Others have praised us while some have given us F's. We just have to wait and see

Supposed "experts" and "analysts" are human just like that. They aren't born with a premonition and base their opinion on rumors and the broad picture.

Experts gave us a bad grade when we drafted Tyreke. Experts gave us a bad grade when we drafted Cousins.

Their opinion holds absolutely no weight for me.

Though Petrie has had his highs and lows when trading, he is usually spot on when drafting...especially for picks in the top 10. He knows the game inside and out. Better than anybody on this forum. In addition, he along with his staff has had a lot more access to in depth footage of all the draft picks and apparently felt that Fredette was their man all along.

I don't believe this was a miscalculation wherein Petrie thought that Knight wouldn't fall because if that was the case, they would complete the trade right after the 6th spot was picked, which has happened many times in previous drafts. Rather than doing that, Petrie was sure Fredette wouldn't go to the previous 9 teams, thus pulled the trade ahead of time.

And I'm saying that there was a TON of talk about Toronto taking Biyombo over even Valanciunas. It sounded like it was between those two, nobody else.

From what I've read it's pretty much feast or famine with this draft. People either say it was great, or it was the worst. On NBA-TV's recap Fratello had the Kings in his top 2 winners. David Aldridge had the Kings in his top 2 losers. Hahahaha.
