After this draft/trade are the Lolcats finally the SwatCats?

Post#1 » by Hon-essim » Fri Jun 24, 2011 8:33 am

...or just the Tankcats?

What's the official verdict? Everyone seems to be pleased by Cho's decision but it seems that's partially because of expectations for the Bobcats' guaranteed tanking.

Does Charlotte finally have a strategy or is this too early to tell? Do you foresee Cho being this team's definitive GM for seasons to come or is there still something missing about the decision?

No coach. No GM. Probably no star. I swear, in my 23 years of following this team, I can't name a stranger time than this moment to be a supporter of the Magic.

Its refreshing to finally see a complete rebuild after pressure to make the playoffs largely screwed the Bobcats since 2006. Lets be honest, even though the Pacers and Sixers have good talent they are going absolutely nowhere for the next 5 years. At least there is the hope of drafting a hall of fame player, especially with the ridiculous talent in the next couple of drafts, to propel the team into the top 4 in the East.

True. But you have to admit there's something more to this recent moves.

In the entire history of the organization as the "Bobcats", there have never been as unanimously praised a moves as this recent one not just from within the team board but over into the general board and one where it ranges not just from the picks but to the actual trades. Considering this isn't a big name major trade, it has the borderline rumble of one.

It feels great knowing we have a clear direction in which this team is going. People are talking about us being the winners of the draft, can you believe that ?

Great draft, and I'm extremely excited for our rebuilding process.

I love that we now have an honest direction. It will be very easy to root for this team with the burden of unrealistic expectations being removed. We all knew that the last version of the Bobcats was never going deep into the playoffs, yet we had to listen to players, coaches and the FO pretend like we were just a few pieces away from competing. We'll lose for several years with some young exciting players and add lottery talent each year to the mix. I can now enjoy watching the development of our young guys, charting improvement, while keeping a steady eye on Perry Jones, Harrison Barnes, etc.

Ya. If we can have one more really good hit out in next years draft (another two top ten picks wouldbe handy - especially if we can shed salary as well like we did with Livingston) then that would be awesome.

Is it too early to fire up the Quincy Miller and Harrison Barnes band wagons?

Well you could say that even with major flaws, the hurdles with the Bobcats weren't totally because they were clueless but because they were done to try to compete but compete at a Larry Brown level.

Even now if you're not a fan of the current decisions, you could say the team is just simply shifting to a pure tank mode rather than becoming part of a blueprint set by the new gm. After all, outside of the actual picks, the Bobcats are pretty much the same team minus S-Jax, Felton and Wallace. There's still no guarantee that everyone else in the roster turns out right or gets kept. There's still also no guarantee what happens to DJ and Hendo in the long term. I even predict there might be two more major trades with this current roster assuming there's no lock-out. Cho is well known for his turn about trades.

There was a definitive change in thinking with this draft, no doubt about that. Previously, I think we had too many basketball minds who were too prideful to not try and win now as much as possible and now I think we have a more business-like approach to building a franchise of seeking sustainable growth.

If we can get a mid & late first rd pick next year for DJ I'll be laughing all the way to the bank.

I was starting to embrace the lolcats. We can still be the SwatCats still I guess as long as they still do it for the Lulz.

I think selling the Tyler pick was for the Lulz.. Like we can't be this good @ drafting yet!

Although I can't see how we can be anything else than the LolCats with a fatass like Maggette, how about BlockCats? I don't care that a front line-up of Diop and Biyombo would be absolutely useless on offense, I just can imagine how they would swat away every weak shot.

I am still pissed we gave away Tyler for f'n cash. That was some BS. We would've had a shot at molding him into something special. :(

I'd rather them focus all their energy on Biz's rawness than be forced to spread it across two super raw bigs.

I was glad they started down this road at the trade deadline, and now Cho & Company are all in to rebuild. How many times did I and others say over the last year...BLOW..IT..UP!

The SwatCats is pretty good, but they still gotta show it. May I suggest taking the obvious from a few others here and call them...the SwagCats

Either way, we'll continue to be LOL until the ship turns...
I continue to wait...and hope...for the return to Hornet's glory.
