What about giving Matt Howard a look? Proven winner and is scrappy. Not to mention smart and great basketball IQ. I'm just saying!!!

I agree completely, Matt Howard as an irrelevant backup that might come on like AJ Price is a great idea.

He'd definitely improve the locker room and the intensity of practices. Most of the time, the 12-15 man on the roster hardly ever comes into play anyways besides that.

as an 11/12 man you can't go wrond with a player like Howard. would love to see his intensity on our bench, would make for some great practices with him and hans...

I would also love to see us bring Ben Hansbrough in for a look. He and Matt would be fine as the last two guys on our bench.

Guys that don't expect to play, that are great in the locker room, add value to practices are always a great addition.

Never hurts to bring these guys in for a look and test them vs. NBA competition, but, it's tough this year with no summer league.

I hope the Pacers give Matt Howard a shot. I see no reason to have the roster full of guaranteed contracts. Bring him and some other non guaranteed contract candidates in and let their performances drive the answer.

I forget who reported it, i think John Robjohns, but he said earlier today that Ben Hansbrough has signed in Europe. I believe in Germany. He also said that Matt Howard is close to a deal with a team in Europe as well. A lot of undrafted players will be signed quickly by European teams because without summer league, that's a guaranteed paycheck, plus it keeps them from getting rusty. Syracuse center Rick Jackson (also mentioned on this board) is also close to signing a deal in Europe i heard on the radio today.

While I do like the energy that Howard would bring to the court (if he got any PT at all), he would also be willing to bang around with anyone. If for some reason he was able to get big minutes, he would get into crazy foul trouble in about 20 seconds.

His defense is awfully atrocious but I believe that it could be improved. Matt is weak in both lower and upper body strength from what I have seen. Furthermore, Matt is weak with his defensive footwork. On a positive note, I think Matt has the ability to improve quite a bit defensively. He has the offensive footwork which leads me to believe he could figure it out defensively. It may simply be that he needs to improve his lower body strength to help him assert his will a bit defensively.

I would be all for the Pacers signing Matt for a few seasons. He is not good enough at this point to even play spot minutes for a good team but for us, we could probably manage to get him some spot minutes if we made the effort. If Matt could get close to being an average defender for a big, I think he will be an NBA player eventually.

Surely sign him purely as the 13th to 15th man on the roster and a training session body.
Never know he could develop into a backup big that could give us 5 mins of the bench maybe by season end in the odd game here and there.

I want to see who they sign once they Dunleavy's huge ass contract expires. I would also love to see a Iggy/Granger trade.
