I will say for Ed's argument that he looks a lot bigger in that Wizard's Jersey than he did in those 2010 games I was watching (many of which are spring of 2010).

I'll need to check out some more recent stuff before going any further with it. My inclination is that somewhere in the range of a high character and smarter version of Darius Miles might not be far off at all, but if his body wants to bulk up on us, maybe that changes things.

It doesn't take that long to watch a game as Jan only plays about 20-25 minutes. He often gets in foul trouble from what I've seen too.

May not be a big deal to many people but Jan at the PF had me intrigued because I believe his rebounding will be better than his shooting in the NBA. But with his lack of measurments I wasnt sure. Looking at the video below with him meeting Singleton after the draft is a little concerning as he seems to be the same height(maybe half an inch taller) and Singleton is 6'7.75 w/o shoes. It wouldnt surprise me if Jan if 6'8.5 w/o shoes with legnth no better than Singleton (and maybe shorter). At 225-230 lbs he seems to look like a Chandler Parsons/Drew Gooden build. But both those players have a much more savy face up and post game.
I still like Vesely and I think that he was the best choice with Kanter and Valanciunas gone, just food for thought.

I heard that Vesely and Valucianus measured in at almost the exact same weight and height as Jonas Valucianus. Vesely was 6'11, 239 in shoes. Jonas was 7'0, 241 in shoes.

Can't find the link, but I remember reading it. Might have been the Detroit workout.

Good point. Flip loves to put a lanky mobile defender at the top of the key in his 1-2-2 matchup zone defense. Tayshaun Prince wreaked havoc for him in Detroit. KG in Minnesota. Vesely could do the same here.

I've been down on the draft, but between Singleton and Vesely one of them likely will be as good or better than Tayshaun Prince defensively.

doc, I'm sitting in a Starbucks here in HI and I've seen in the past 2 hours 3 or 4 women even more attractive. Similarly dark-complected ladies, high cheek bones, strong jaw lines. Atypical day, I've got to admit, but I've had to avert my eyes and bury my eyes in my books and on my Mac; if you know what I mean.

As I type this I'm reading body language and there is a lady next to me tutoring her former student (we struck up a conversation). What does legs crossed toward me and almost touching me mean, doc? :lol:

I like the fact that Vesely has already had to make the cultural and linguistic adjustment going from the Czech Republic to Serbia. Learning a 2nd language and fitting in with people from a different country is hard as hell- even if there are some similarities to your original mother tongue. The kind of persistence and repetition he's already gotten used to will help him big time in developing whatever he needs to improve in his game, whether it be strength, shooting touch, rebounding, etc.

Having said that, if his English stays awkward enough that he never quite earns an invitation into the Andray Blatche circle of trust, I think that Ernie Grunfeld and the coaches would not be particularly heartbroken :-?

Refresh my memory, didnt Andray come into the league much thinner and projected as a Forward tweener?

Just trying to guage wether Vesely will end up a PF as well. Obviously our FO thinks he can. I'd like him to, even if it takes a few years and it probably will before he becomes good enough and strong enough to play there. I know KG came in as a PF/SF hybrid but i want to steer clear of making any comparisons. Hes probably more like an Austin Daye.

While Prince may have been good during the regular season,he wasn't much of a shutdown defender when it mattered in the postseason against Miami, Cleveland, and Boston. I think Saunders inherited a solid defensive team from Larry Brown, it will be interesting to see if he can develop his own again. Here's to hoping that Vesley is more KG than Tayshaun Prince (see game 5 against Cleveland in 2007).

It sounds like Flip is suggesting that he plans to use Vesley at the 3 for now with him probably then moving on to power forward later:

Because of his slender frame, Saunders expects to use Vesely in similar fashion to Garnett in his early years. “He was a three-man because wasn’t physically big, but what happened is he got to shoot over guys and when he became a four, he was able to put the ball on the floor,” said Saunders, adding that he will help Vesely make the necessary adjustments with his jump shot. “He’s got some things he does that are minor adjustments. He backs away when he shoots it. He’ll see good improvement. He’s going to be able to do a little bit of everything.”

It is the penultimate Vesley scouting opportunity, being the Tommy Shepherd scouted Serb league championship game that cemented a Partizan sweep from just three weeks ago.

Vesley is hyper assertive in a fast paced match with that being good and bad in that he makes both nice plays and bad ones in a tight concentration. The competition must be the second best in the Serb league, but it's a slaughter and Vesley's man is decidedly not NBA caliber, so that's too bad, but it's still excellent footage for getting a feel for Czech Mate. I've seen the second game of the sweep too and between them, Vesley throws down not one, not two, not three, not four, not five, not six, but seven disgusting Shaka Zulu dunks (and in fact, the other game is missing the fist quarter, so it might be eight). He also shows you a near airball free throw, an airball 3 and a number of bad passes, so it's balanced footage.

Like Nate was saying a few pages back, Vesley will thrive if you put him around a bunch of heady passers as his timing and feel for slashing off the ball is fantastic when combined with his tools and mentality. The dude is really smart and tough in anything that doesn't include defensive rebounding (he's turrible); standing out in particular is how he runs through screens, posts up and goes to the offensive glass. His ball handling is better than expected and he can pass, though he's wild there. His interior defense against anyone other than his (much smaller) man is not great either, at least considering what you'd hope for with his tools. I've seen games where his hands were bad and then I've seen ones where there's zero problems, so that's uncertain to me. He also either shoots 3's or, much more usually, attacks the rim; there's nothing in between with his game from what I've seen which is great if you ask me.

Anyway, just watch that game.

IF Vesely develops a 3 point shot, this could be a great fit for the Wizards. His FT shooting leaves me a little pessimistic about this happening, but I am trying to maintain a more open mind.

I see little Dirk in him as Dirk isn't that athletic and was/is more of a shooter than a dunker. Put Jes's heart in Dray and you are closer to Dirk.

Jes is defiantly more a AK47 or Marion type. I also see some Birdman. The more I watched him and learned about him the less I'm concerned. The is 7-0 and all heart. He is a baller. He should be fine. I'm not even concerned with him playing some PF now and more later as he plays heaver than his weight. The kid is going to fight. Sometimes that is more important then pure weight. He should be able to add 10 lbs of muscle and still be quick. At 250 and with his fight, he can hold position against most. Then we can match up against the brutes with other players.

He will play both SF and PF. I'm pretty sure of that. Just like Lewis did.
