No reason to sign Crawford or similar volume scoring guard with Kemba in play.
Guards: Vujacic (sharp shooting), Douglas-Roberts (size), McGrady (mentoring), Afflalo (sharp shooting), Temple (cheap), Redd (mentoring)
Forwards: Josh Howard (mentor + may still have something left in the tank), Cunningham (QO) Thornton (young), Thaddeus Young (young), McGuire (cheap), Grant Hill (mentoring), Battier (mentoring), Prince (mentoring)
Centers: Kwame (already here), Dalembert (mentoring), Hawes (shooter)

Ah, he was old coming out of college. I remember that Young and him were in the same draft.
Sam Young may end up being too expensive but I like him more than Cunningham.

@SpearsNBAYahoo: Hornets just lost another big man to free agency in Aaron Gray, as his rep just gave team word not exercising option

Don't see us considering a guy like that unless we fail to resign Kwame but interesting news nevertheless. I'm sure a few teams will try to snatch him up on a cheap deal.
I wonder what New Orleans knows because they trade the rights to Josh Harrellson and now they're declining the option on Gray. That's leaving them really thin at the five since Mbenga is an expiring and I highly doubt they exercise the team option on David Andersen. I also doubt they meet the QO for Jason Smith.

I think it was a player option, not a team option - so it wasn't the Hornets making the call, it was Gray.

Ah, you're right. According to HoopsHype, he turned down $1,124,931. I guess he figures he can get $2-3m on the open market.

Re: 2011 Free Agency
I sure as hell dont want Dalembert or McGrady mentoring my players to have a stike.... I love the idea of signing Grant Hill + Redd on the cheap for mentoring purposes..
here is my short list with all considered:
1. Thadeus Young: I love the kid, he has a wing mentality but can get it done on the boards due to his hieght, however he probably will opt to stay with the 76ers, and if not Avery Johnson and the nets will probably beat us to him.
2. Kwame Brown: If we can get him on the cheap I would love to have him back, he showed alot of determination and hard play for us this year.
3. Sam Young: would make up for all the D we lose by having Magette on the court...
4. Jeff Green: would add a versatile 4 who can play the 3 for us, also would add youth to the team.
5. Wilson Chandler: the only reason this man isnt #1 on the list is because of the probability that he stays with the nuggets plus the expense he would cost us...
6. Aaron Affalo: I like the kid but by bringing in this kid we would jam up our backcourt. Plus I like Hendo's potential over Affalo's..

Re: 2011 Free Agency
from what one of the denver mods told me wilson chandler never really settled down in denver. he seemingly had one foot out the door the whole time he was there. i think there is a decent chance he does not resign with them.

I hope we sign Kwame for around 4mil per, loyalty discount lol.
We've extended the QO to cunningham so thats a near done deal
Unless we get rid of DJ & need a backup point I'm not really keen on signing players during a lockout.

Re: 2011 Free Agency
I say sing a bunch of castaways or someone who is really undervalued (sam Young). I think our goal is to suck one more year to get another if possible high lottery pick. Singing someone like Thadd Young, jeff green, ect. would make us better but not good enough. Or to put it in Cho words they would put us in mediocrity. It's either suck or win big for us right now. And I guess suck is the choice for the lockout season.
Speaking of sucking. Do any of you guys think that the Bobcats as it is are one of the worst teams in the league? Or do we still have just enough talent to get pick #9 again? I'm in the #9 pick corner. Kemba and Biyombo are at least ready to produce backup minutes right away. Maggete replaces Jackson as our primary scorer which is a downgrade but is it enough? If you count in the improvement of DJ, Henderson and TT we just might be a 33 win team again.

Re: 2011 Free Agency
Barring injuries or not resigning Kwame, I think we'll be right around that 30 game mark. For the most part our teams have always brought it every game and we have a focus on defense unlike the Raptors, Pistons, Kings, Wizards, Nets and Timberpuppies. Even though our offense may be anemic I just can't see us at the bottom of the league struggling to win 20 games.

Re: 2011 Free Agency
I wouldn't be surprised at all if we went after Jeff Green. He was with Cho in OKC and was one of the draft picks by Cho in Seattle with Durant. I think Green has proven that he is a SF, and is a bit out of position at PF. But here's the catch. Do you sign a solid young player like Green and roll with the punches, or do you do nothing and just tank it banking on the fact that whoever you could get in the draft next year are better options than Jeff Green would be? If you could get Jeff Green relatively cheap, then it would be an easy decision. However all the other teams in the league will be thinking the same thing. Guys that are young and could probably be had on the cheap would be the guys I look at. These are guys that might fit that bill:
Kwame Brown (not young, but for cheap is worth it)
Al Thornton (could be a decent back-up)
Sam Young
Chris Douglas Roberts
Spencer Hawes
Jeff Green (again would have to be a pretty low asking price)
Out of those guys I think CDR has the best chance of coming cheap and having a big impact off the bench with Sam young just behind him. SO I guess those 2 guys would be at the very top of my list.

Re: 2011 Free Agency
I would try to sign
Sam Young
Thaddeus Young
Spencer Hawes
but I don't think we have the money to sign them.
Kwame but only for veteran minimum
And it would sound shocking but I would sign JR Smith for a fair deal.

Re: 2011 Free Agency
I'm not really sure what they should do, but I agree with Bizz - continue to suck for now and acquire talent through the draft. If we can draft our superstar in 2012 then fill in the pieces beyond that with FA.
