2011 Bobcats Mini Camp

Post#1 » by BigSlam » Tue Jun 28, 2011 9:06 pm

Lance Allred C 6-11 255
Alan Anderson G 6-6 220
DeMarre Carroll F 6-8 212
Thomas Coleman C 6-9 220
Ronald Dupree F 6-7 209
Gary Flowers F 6-8 214
Tony Gaffney F 6-9 215
Orien Greene G 6-4 210
Brandon Heath G 6-4 198
Cedric Jackson G 6-3 190
Adam Koch F 6-8 245
Stephane Lasme F 6-8 225
Elijah Millsap G 6-6 210
Patrick O'Bryant C 7-0 250
Russell Robinson G 6-2 190
Jermaine Taylor G 6-4 210
Garrett Temple G 6-5 180
Jawad Williams F 6-9 225

There are some familiar faces there - Jawad, Temple, Jermaine, POB, Lasme, Greene, Dupree, DeMarre and our old friend Alan Anderson!!

I'd love to give DeMarre a shot. He's sort of like a poor mans Gerald Wallace IMO - all energy all the time.

I'd also 100% look at POB. He's been a bit of a laughing stock for a long time but he actually hasn't looked THAT bad at times. Plus he would add to our "I was the 9th overall pick in my draft class" collection!!

I wouldn't mind bringing Temple back as the third PG. Jawad or DeMarre would fit into that third SF slot nicely but there's also McGuire. Jermaine Taylor is another guy that I really like but he would potentially take minutes away from Kemba at SG. I guess we're considering big guys like Allred and POB since Diop will be out for a while with the injury.

I'll take Jermaine Taylor as that kind of combo guard (3rd PG and limited SG minutes). I would also like Demmarre Carroll for additional depth on the wings and finally Patrick O'bryant down low. I think that Taylor and Carroll are both guys that would see VERY limited minutes, but are young and would provide decent energy off the bench and have SOME potential that could possibly be un-dug. Of course if we are tanking, these guys would be better options than signing someone in actual free agency.

As far as Patrick O'bryant goes, I would love to pick him up. Obviously the guy is a huge bust but he has been able to provide solid depth in the past. In Toronto 2 seasons ago he got 11 minutes of playing time and was able to turn that into 5 and 3. He is an athletic 7 footer who would certainly provide good depth off the bench. Especially with Diop out. I would actually be somewhat interested to see what this guy could do on this team with 15 minutes a game. I mean the guy has never really gotten a chance to truly show what he has in extended minutes. Perhaps there is some untapped potential there that Silas and company could bring out. Roster could be filled out as follows:
DJ/Kemba/Taylor
Hendo/Carroll/Kemba/Taylor
Maggette/Cunningham/D. Carroll
Diaw/Thomas/DJW/Najera
Biyombo/O'Bryant/Diop

Pretty ugly 15 man roster but one that is extremely young and even the guys who figure not to get a lot of PT are still young with possibly some untapped potential. Best of all, were saving our cap space and if any of these guys are decent depth for the future, we could keep them on. If were in full tank mode, this would be what the FO should seriously look at...

Gross. None of the above, please. BTW - Lighty is at Atlanta's mini-camp as is Demetri McCamey. Our mini-camp roster blows.

Ben Hansbrough signed a contract in Germany.

Half of the names on the list I'd be fine with giving a roster spot/training camp invite to, especially Allred and Lasme.

Well we may just workout guys we don't know. We worked out a lot of second round/undrafted talents before the draft and Cho himself saw a lot of others in Portland. They may have already a settled opinion on many players who are not in he camp, who knows.

There is no inversal Bobcats news thread to post it and it's not worthy to create one just becuae that, so I'll post it here (partially because I don't want to bother to copy each tweet separately where it belongs). Maybe we could cahnge the title like soemthing "...and other Bobcats news"? just my two cents.
