nicknames for the new guys

Post#1 » by daSwami » Sat Jun 25, 2011 9:29 pm

As board tradition mandates, offer up your ideas for aliases for our new draftees. Here are some ideas:

Jan Vesely = The Jan Hammer. (or maybe "Superfreak"). When he throws down his patented tomohawk dunk the Verizon Center DJ dude can play the Superfreak hook and then "Stop!" and the crowd responds: "Hammer time!" Ok, lame, i know ...

Chris "Lock Down" Singleton (or maybe "The Warden")

and of course, obvious Shelvin "Daddy" Mack. - Mack daddy make you jump jump.

Singleton has been called "Stretch" Singleton up to now. I'd call him 1-Ton for brevity. Or 'Singles'. The Whole Dollar (if 50 Cent is Fitty and LeBron is 75 cents since he got no 4th quarter in him). Or in that respect given his eagerness for the fight (and his entrepreneurial bent): Stack Singles. 'Stacks'. CS Stack Money. But for now, while typing: 1ton. Keep it short.

Jan Vesely. I'm calling Ichabod until he puts on a little musckles. That's is one gangly scarecrow. VSilly works as well. VSillz. VSkillz. Mike Czech. Czech One. Czech it: I'm about to wreck this rim right on top of ya, hail from the province that once was slovakia...

Daddy Mack, right.

Mic Czech uhhuh-a-uhuh, Ernie like me so much he woulda drafted me twice (I withdrew ya'll) I jump so high I'll un-retire Frederick Weis (and retire Vince ya'll, you know he wants it), Fran Fraschilla says I play with gusto, yo my freethrow is as low as Jacques Cousteau...

Don't call me Blake Griffin baby cuz I ain't on the Clippers...

Oooh. I like "The Warden" for Singleton, Swami. Nice. Let's see if we can make that stick.

EG needs to acquire Bogut just so we could dub him and Jan as "CzechMate".

I can see the 2015 Washington Post headline now:

Czechmate on the King.

Bullets advance to NBA Finals.

...I'm a Wiz with the ball now so kick off your slippers
babes turn around so I can undo your zippers
drip the silk to the carpet, it won't soon be ovah
I'm smooth with a smooch you can czech Kodouskova

czech Bilas, I'm the illest, czeck Fran Fraschilla
I'm a ghost who throws down, anoretic godzilla
scrawny but long, don't call me no tweener
I'm a forward with power just a lil bit leaner
and if I lean to the left like a senator(s) Weiner
(heh heh just teasing, you know: 'neener-neener')
it's just to counterweight my balls always bounce to the right
when I'm shooting that stroke with my eyelids squeezed tight

VSilla, the thrilla, pale like Manila
folder, holds papers, and equally slim
I slip through the cracks, when attacking the rim
can't pronounce my name but you better respect me
I'm a take the rookie title, can't nobody Czech me

Well, in fairness, we took Mike Pence off their hands. Taking back Mahinmi is the least they can do.

I'm calling Vesley "Prague Spring" myself, but I don't think many people get the reference:

The Prague Spring (Czech: Pražské jaro, Slovak: Pražská jar) was a period of political liberalization in Czechoslovakia during the era of its domination by the Soviet Union after World War II. It began on 5 January 1968, when reformist Slovak Alexander Dubček came to power, and continued until 21 August when the Soviet Union and members of the Warsaw Pact invaded the country to halt the reforms.

The Prague Spring reforms were an attempt by Dubček to grant additional rights to the citizens in an act of partial decentralization of the economy and democratization. The freedoms granted included a loosening of restrictions on the media, speech and travel. After national discussion of dividing the country into a federation of three republics, Bohemia, Moravia-Silesia and Slovakia, Dubček oversaw the decision to split into two, the Czech Republic and Slovak Republic. This was the only change that survived the end of the Prague Spring.

(Yes, I'm citing a wikipedia source; don't put this one into your term papers).

Basically Glasnost and Perestroika, Czech style, in 1968. The bad news was that it got smashed up by armored divisions.

But, it's a reference to national identity, renaissance style reforms and then mad hops.

I don't think I have a better one in me.

Singleton, I'm not sure yet, nothing standing out as of now - I expect something will present itself once we get going.

I just hope it's not "_an Vesely" still in a couple of years.
Making extreme statements like "only" sounds like there are "no" Jokics in this draft? Jokic is an engine that was drafted in the 2nd round. Always a chance to see diamond dropped by sloppy burgular after a theft.

Yeah if he develops a respectable J this one is beautiful. If he doesn't improve his J from where it is now, "An Vesley" won't be far behind.
