Get Oden

Post#1 » by Rondo2Hondo » Mon Jun 27, 2011 8:34 am

I don't know if this has been discussed before (it probably has seeing Oden is a hometown guy), but why don't the Pacers use their cap-space on him this off-season, or initiate a sign and trade using Hibbert?

This is a huge gamble, but I think Oden may finally be healthy this time around. Surely the Pacers could employ some outside experts to assess Oden (maybe through a bunch of money at the Suns medical staff).

Greg Oden pushes this team to a number 4-5 seed straight away if he's healthy. I don't see the current Pacers team being any better than a 7th seed and first round exit. I really think it's time to take a gamble.

Offering David West a contract would be an even bigger gamble, but the payout could be huge.

PG: Collison/ Hill/ Price
SG: George/ Rush/ Stevenson
SF: Granger/ Posey/ Jones
PF: West/ Hansbrough/ McRoberts
CT: Oden/ Foster/ Jones

If healthy, that's a championship contender (if they click). I'd alos offer Dunleavy Jr. a small contract, and buy-out Posey or D. Jones. Ford needs to be bought-out, too.

It is stupid trading Hibbert for Oden.

A few things:

I'd prefer not to trade our young and promising, and healthy, center for another that may never play again. If I did want Oden, I would outbid Portland. A sign and trade wouldn't require much more than a second rounder and TPE.

Surely, you don't think this is a good idea? The word 'gamble' is never a good idea when used in the NBA and worth $40 million. If Oden is signed, the team knows they're getting an injured player and there's a fair chance he doesnt take the court.

I'm not sure how to reply, I've got a feeling you are trolling. Why don't we use all of our cap space on two injured big men? If it doesn't pan out we just wait 4 years until their deals run out and start again.

We did you one better; we just let his contract expire.

Thanks, but no thanks.

we have cap space to make him an offer. I wouldn't risk losing a starter to hope Greg is finally healthy but if the Doctors cleared him I'd put in a bid. the problem as I see it is that Greg is probably out until after the date on which contracts become guaranteed meaning this is not the year that would allow you to sign him to a contract that was not guaranteed with respect to prior injuries.

Someone will overpay for him and take a chance on him that he'll stay healthy. In all honesty though, what has he really shown when healthy? He wasnt exactly tearing it up before his injuries and he had made a name for himself because he was bigger than his opponents before he got to the league.

No on Greg Oden. Even if the doctors clear him, they have cleared him multiple times before and he has done nothing. He was good in college because he was big and could halfway jump. Other than that, one of the biggest busts ever.

Greg has had too many significant injuries to assume that he was a bust based off of his capabilities. When healthy, he had some promising results.

If we did not already have Hibbert, I'd look at him.

Oden's development has taken so many hits, his ceiling has been lowered significantly.

That is the truth. When he plays, he looks pretty appealing. If we had no Hibbert, I would be all for it. I would think that adding Oden would simply take away from Roy's development and that is assuming Oden can even stay healthy.

Oden is a risk and no way would I sign and trade Hungry Hungry Hibbert.
Offer oden a contract and see if the Blazers match it - that is all.
West would be my number 1 target to throw money at.

Bringing in Oden would be a great feel good story. Waaaaaaaaaaaaaay to much risk. Since both he and Roy can only play the 5 the upside of this transaction is pretty limited too.

I was thinking we might try to bring in Oden to backup Roy. To replace Roy is laughable.

I might trade Posey and Rush for Oden after the Blazers give him this QO money works about right, let him sit til Jan/Feb 2012 and see if his knee heals if not then decide if he can get better and maybe sign him to a 2 or 3 yr deal with an team option yr 2 and 3.
