David West to opt out

Sometimes I struggle with all of the optimism around ALL of our young players. The likelihood that Collison, george, tyler & roy all become all stars is slim. More than likely two of them become journeyman. How long have we failed to get something for a young player because we have held onto them far, far too long? (B. Rush, I'm looking at you).

David West has been to 2 All Start games and was an important part of the Hornets for the last several years. (Compare his stats with Josh Smith. Its interesting). We don't want him because he's a pure 4 and he'll interfere with Tyler's development? I'm not sure an objective analyst would say the same thing.

I looked back at the Kevin Garnett trade and he's how it broke down

Ainge was called criticized for giving up on Jefferson, yet in retrospect it was a pretty good move.

I don't understand the logic of writing off Hansbrough as 20 minute (or less if you bring in a guy like West) bench player. He missed most of his rookie year then got almost no run for half this season. When he finally got on the floor he played well. The notion that he can't/won't improve just doesn't seem logical to me given what we've seen.

Still no to West, sure he's got 3-5 years left in his tank, but he's on the downhill and he's DEFINITELY not going to get any better. 18 and 9 could be the best case scenario, yes, but maybe for just a couple of years. i doubt he can still produce like that when he's 35. The only way i would want West is if he can be signed for 3 years with the last year being team option. And i doubt he'll settle for something like that. He'll go for money and i don't think he's worth giving a chunky contract.

If he's 28 or something, i'd be all for it, but coming off a season-ending surgery and aging, i'd think twice. Maybe thrice. Maybe more.

Perhaps the GM's of the teams with capspace think exactly like you. Which means he will not get offered a lot more than the 26/3 the Hornets offered him.

I could see us really ending up with him and if our staff thinks he is/can get healthy, I wouln't mind it at all.

I'd rather sign Josh and hope that Ty can develop a left hand. if not, we can look at 4's in the 2012 draft.

I think West would be a good pick up for the right price not over 10 mil, prefer cheaper but I bet that is what he gets, for 3-4 years. Yes we would be taking a risk but it is worth it, I believe this is his first ever knee injury, and he has the work ethic to do what it takes to get back. Even if he will be on a down fall he is still better than Tyler. I like Tyler alot with his hustle and attitude but he is fit more for the first big off the bench on a good team and I think that is where we are trying to get to.

West is an improvement over tyler but winning is all about matchups and their skills overlap enough to still leave us in need of a bigger guy.
