Similar Contract to Francisco Garcia

Post#1 » by becorz » Wed Jun 29, 2011 5:22 pm

In thinking how the Kings might balance their team, I started to think that trading Francisco Garcia to another team for a player with a similar contract at a different position might be the way to do it. While I like Cisco, I think having a player like him rot on the bench (I am of the opinion that he is NOT a 2 guard) is not worth while. We already have two other 3s that I would rather have sit, just because they are younger and can develop. I think Cisco is what he is, which is a servicable 8th or 9th man.

So, my question, who accross the NBA has similar contracts (2 years, about mid level) that might be traded for him? We obviously wont take on long term money in a trade with him unless we are getting a far superiour player. I can only think of two players.

Beno Udrih (obviously won't happen because we would have replaced him for Cisco in the trade if we had a choice)
Jason Maxiel (probably not good enough)

Who else can you think of?

Another guy I can think of is Matt Carrol. Maybe him and DJ White for Cisco?

Westphal is not in favor of getting rid of Francisco Garcia. He doesn't want to play any more scrub rookies than he has to.

I'd hate to get rid of Cisco. He can play 1-3 so he should be getting some minutes and he's pretty much the only thing remotely resembling a veteran presence that this team has. He can play defense and shoot the ball. I forsee pretty much all the SF minutes going to he and Salmons if this roster stays as is at that position.

Although with the move for Salmons Cisco has become expendable, I would look to move him only for a REALLY solid big shooter (a la a Matt Carroll type - PF body and "D" ability with very accurate three-point range to stretch the floor). That would go a long way to rounding out the roster.

Same basic parameters though insofar as contract length and size. You might get one of the older teams that is past their window to go for it.

I agree with you that he is our "veteran presence" right now, but I just don't think he is that good. Last year he couldn't stay with any PG or most SG on defense, so I really don't see him playing anywhere but SF, especially the way our team is constructed. On top of that, he is a very overrated shooter. He only looks good by comparison to our other players...
