We also signed Jason Terry to an offer sheet.

Boozer was every bit as big of a name then as Gasol is now. Boozer was on the Olympic team then. Why was Cleveland so pissed off at him leaving in the middle of the night if he wasn't a big name? Why would any NBA GM pay top contract for a guy who wasn't a big name? Everyone knew Boozer was an All Star in the making. End of story. What was unknown was his intangibles.

Jazz never overpaid for Okur. He was worth every penny of the moderate contract they gave him. Remember Detroit wanted to keep him but couldn't afford him.

Ooh, and Ben Handlogten too. Jazz signed him, so in your face!

So by your reasoning James Harden, Jonny Flynn and tyreke Evans are stars. Boozer and Okur had both just finished their 2nd year, both had undeniable talent but were hardly household names.
I am not saying they were poor they were just unproven (Booz did come off a break out season with the Cavs, but 1 year can sometimes be considered a fluke), the jazz turned both these guys into All Stars bottom line, oh an Ben Handlogten really!!!!!!!!!!

How does this prove the typical Utah Little Town Syndrome that Utah cannot sign big names?

There are no sure fire perennial all star free agents this year anyway. The names listed at that link (http://www.jazzhacks.com/topic49.html) are, for the most part, lesser talents than Boozer and Memo were. Using your argument only strengthens the case why it would be great opportunity for the Jazz to dump Memo's contract + the 12th pick and hit FA hard if no lockout, and lower their payroll if it doesn't work out. Obviously, now that Alec Burks has been chosen, the #12 pick has lost some value.

Ok so tell me the last time the jazz signed a All Star calibre free agent?
Boozer may be the exception, but he and Okur weren't even the best players on their respective teams.
Isn't the point the Jazz whether perceived or real have never really been able to lure big name free agents SLC, 1 or 2 in 25 years aint great, can you ever imagine D12 or CP3 coming here in FA - I cant.
I am not really sold on any FA this year, happy to keep who we have already got, we still got a couple of years before we contend in my book

When was the last time an All Star calibre free agent went to another team if you don't count the Decision fiasco last year?

Exactly.

Irrelevant since the better players weren't free agents (not that I'm saying James would ever coming here).

No--people didn't care to read the argument and made knee-jerk, distracting side points instead of addressing the proposal directly. The argument is to go after Marc Gasol and the free agents available in exchange for Memo and the #12. I'd sure as hell take Wilson Chandler, Aaron Afflalo, and especially Nene over Memo and this bust Burks. Even in the slim chance Burks turns out, I'd rather shore up the 2-3 than gamble on rookie potential. KOC doesn't have a strong history of drafting shooting guards.

Gasol is a true center and a stud. The Jazz system requires one who can defend and score, but doesn't need to be the center of the offense. Nene anyone?
