Milwaukee Brewers @ the Bronx Lager Yanks
Let's turn back the clocks to a couple seasons ago when the Brewers whined about how the NY Yankees are ruining baseball by ponying up the cash for CC to come to the Bronx. Now fast forward, clearly the Yanks haven't ruined baseball. The Brewers are doing just fine. This will be the Yanks strongest test yet...
Greinke (7-2) vs. Garcia (6-6)
Marcum (7-2) vs Burnett (7-6)
Wolf (6-4) vs. Sabathia (10-4)

Yanks offense just bashed Greinke and took him out in 2 innings. WOW.

11-2 Yanks...use up that bullpen Yanks. Hopefully AJ can pitch up to form and the Yanks can give him support before CC takes the mound. With the Sawx tangling with Philly, this is a perfect opportunity to get some breathing room.

What a SICK catch by Granderson...for anyone who is curious Austin "Action" Jackson is hitting .251. I think there were a lot of unfair criticism by Yankee fans...took Granderson a yr to acclimate to playing in NYC.
Yanks down 0-1. Let's Go Yanks!

Yup, reinforcements on their way...Colon, Hughes, and the Captain.
CC takes the mound...Yanks have a great chance to sweep and Boston to face Hamels.

The difference between the yankees staff this year with the likes of colon, garcia and nova is that we actually have a catcher that gives a crap about playing defense.
Being a pitcher my whole life (d1 and some minor league ball) I can tell you that a pitcher's effectiveness is so easily determined by their catcher. Whether it's their ability to call a good game, frame pitches or set up a good target, it is so important to have a catcher that cares more about his defense then his offense. I said it when we signed him and still stand behind it that Russell Martin was going to help make our rag-tag pitching staff more then you can imagine.
Even if he hits .250 he is having positive effects on the other side of the game which to me is a little more important. Good pitching always beats good hitting and I think you can attribute our pitchers effectiveness this year to the passing of the baton from Posada (by far the worst defensive catcher in the MLB the past few years) to an above average catcher.
If you don't believe me, take the cards and red sox for example. Cards have one of the best defensive catchers in the MLB in Yadier Molina and they somehow get reclamation projects to perform way above their standards. Some can attribute it to the Dave Duncan but then look at the red sox. Curt Young, heralded as a great pitching coach at Oakland (Kurt Suzuki, another great defensive catcher), and he comes to the Red Sox and most of their pitchers have underperformed with Salty as their everyday catcher (below avg).
The correlation is too hard to ignore and I'm more then ecstatic we were able to get Russell Martin for 10cents on the dollar.
