San Diego (37-45) vs. Seattle (39-42)

Post#1 » by TTown » Thu Jun 30, 2011 5:26 pm

The bitter rivalry that MLB keeps shoving down our throats continues.

RHP Dustin Moseley (2-7, 3.03) vs. Jason Vargas (5-5, 3.88)
LHP Corey Luebke (1-2, 2.86) vs. Doug Fister (3-8, 3.18)
RHP Mat Latos (5-8, 4.24) vs. TBA

Haven't heard yet who's going to take Bedard's Sunday spot. I guess they could just let Pineda throw, given today's off day, and worry about calling up Luke French (or whoever) later in the week. I don't know.

Look at Moseley and Fister. Fister has only 3 wins in 16 starts, despite a 3.18 era. 2 ER over the last 16 IP for Fister, two no decisions. Moseley has 2 wins in 15 starts, despite an era just over 3. In ELEVEN of Moseley's 15 starts he's given up 2 runs or less, and he has TWO wins. That. Is. Absurd.

At least another franchise can feel our pain.

I've entered one of those brief periods where I need a hiatus from the M's. The situation is frustrating me too much.

They'll probably turn around and win 3 against the lowely Padres but i see a less than stellar second half. Pineda is going to be limited towards Sept. on innings, guys like Bedard cant be counted on and a few verterans like Kennedy and Ryan probably wont match what they did in the first half. I hope i'm wrong but i think the good ship Mariner is ready to set sail.

Padres come in hot with 5 game win streak, still think we can realistically take 2 of 3 from them since their offense is barely better than ours and they've got a good pitching staff, but I think ours is better.

Poor Fister and Mosely. I heard some murmurs about Chris Ray taking Bedard's place instead of calling up Luke French, dunno what to make of that.

That would be bonkers, I don't think Chris Ray has ever started a game in his career. Pauley started 15 for us last year...

Two out of three at a minimum for this series. Let's hope so.

On a side note here, I just want to say how deeply saddened I am in my Husky heart for the troubles that are befalling the Oregon football program.

I like our staff better also but our top two guys arent pitching this weekend so not sure how we have a pitching advantage.

It's all good, it'll end up being a slap on the wrist.

Kennedy gets it done yay.

Ackley out of the lineup with sore ribs, Wedge said its nothing and he might even pinch hit today. But dammit now we have to waste some ABs on Figgy today.

Nice uniforms we got today, still like our usual ones more personally though.

Great win. Vargas had a good game today, count on him to suck the next time though. Call up Luke please, not a big fan of chris ray.

The latest rumors seem to say that we're gonna call someone up and its likely to be Beavan over French, since he's scheduled to start for Tacoma on Bedard's start also, and French hasnt exactly been terrific in Tacoma this year.

Least its not Chris Ray, I had heart failure when I saw that.

Vargas owns when he wants to.

It's not always the case, but he does tend to string a couple very good starts together in succession, so he might be riding a decent wave at the moment and we may get one or two more really good starts out of him before the cycle repeats and he hits a rough patch.

This is the 4th time this year Vargas has thrown 9 shutout innings. Three of them were complete game wins, another was a game where we lost 2-1 in 12 innings, in Baltimore. Felix has two complete games but no shutouts, Fister has none, and Pineda/Bedard have none but are both on strict pitch counts, so that's not surprising. I'm too lazy to look up stats for all of MLB, but Vargas has to be up there in total shutouts. Halladay is a complete game machine, but Vargas has been dealin' at times this year.

God does Fister suck. Stunk it up again tonight. How dare he give up one run when that was going to be more than enough for the Padres.

Curse of Doug Fister continues, our offense really sucks on Fister days. Only Halman knows how to hit, GET PEGUERO OUT OF THERE AND LET HALMAN PLAY.

But the way the run was scored..........damn cant we even keep count of how many balls there were

That was the first time this year i actually saw a Mariner pitcher annoyed at the end of that game. Part of it was probably the 3 ball walk that led to the game winning run but something tells me their anemic offense was part of it too.

Luebke was awesome, but I was displeased over how little we made three different relief pitchers work to close out the game. We sent 10 men to the plate the last 3 innings.

Fister's line gets all the more sad over his last three starts:

25 IP, 3 ER, 0-1 record.

It's like a mini microcosm of Felix's summer of 2010, when we scored something like a combined 9 runs over 10 consecutive starts for him.

Guti batting 3rd is not the answer. I know Ackley's out and things are bit jumbled right now, but I hope that's an experiment that died on the operating table.

I have to get Halman, Peguero and Ackley out there at all times, the others just arent going to do it. If it comes down to paying Figgins to play or paying him to sit i'll go with the latter.

Return to Seattle Mariners
