Why would you change your name to World Peace, when you don't even have personal peace...

Did anyone else catch his explanation of the name change on PTI? Well he basically says he got the idea for the name change from Chad Johnson who changed his last name to "Ochocinco" a couple years back. Basically for Artest to create marketing schemes and drum up some buzz for himself he decided to change his name. Him and his group decided on World Peace during the summer of last year but were trying to find a first name to with it. Then they came up with "Metta" because it sounded cool, then after deciding on it they researched it and found it's origins actually applied to Ron's life.

Thus "Metta World Peace" was born.


This was about 2 mins into the interview. I didn't watch anymore because I wanted him off my tv screen as quickly as possible.

Metta will likely be his first name. Metta meaning altruistic love and friendliness. If this is any indication of how he plays this year then LA is in trouble. "World is throwing up bricks" "Metta World Peace with a strong forearm shiver as he fights for the rebound"

Anyway the name change is not really an indication that Ron Ron is off his Bipolar meds and neither is it truly a self-promoting publicity stunt. Ron Ron has a big following and gives to a foundation that recognizes mental illness. This is likely in that line of work similar to his auctioning of the championship ring. A name such as 'Metta World Peace' clearly indicates eccentricity and grandiosity--many successful or prominent persons in history have been afflicted by Bipolar disorders and personality disorders then we realize. Ron's just using his public persona to make more people aware and he continues to give to charity. Nothing wrong with it world. peace. out.
