Hoopsdreams what in Carlisle's resume said champion maker or what in Thibodeau's resume said 8th seed to top record in east and runner up in the eastern conference. Why is everyone so sure Shaw would be a great coach Rambis was suppose to be great he's about to lose his job.

Well.. Kareem was let go a long while ago in Phil's tenure after his mentor sessions with Bynum ended. Nothing to do with Brown there.

Also lets look at Kuesters situation in Detroit he was brought to captain an aging sinking ship with vets who overvalue themselves I think most vets in the NBA would turn on their coach when they see the team go from 1 championships, 2 finals and I think 6 consecutive conference finals to out of the playoffs and locked into long expensive contracts they signed themselves with no way out. Kuester was brought in at the end of all that things were really beyond his control.

Pistons have been irrelevant since losing to Lebron and trading away Billups, its not like Kuester took over a situation that he didn't know about. The fact that there was a mutiny against the coach is good enough to say that his communication and player - relationships needs more polishing.

Re: Ast. Coach talk- IN: Messina, Kuester OUT: Malone, Shaw
From what I understand about the Detroit situation Kuester wanted to get some of there younger players involved so he decided to bench the vets who hadn't done anything in like 3 yrs with how bad Detroit was last season was that such a bad thing to do. Also some people are talking like something similar could happen in LA well thats very unlikely because i've never heard of a mutiny against an assistant. And seriously guys we don't know how good or bad assistants are doing its not like you can see on tv which is doing better which isn't everything assistants do happens behind the scenes.

Re: Ast. Coach talk- IN: Messina, Kuester OUT: Malone, Shaw
While I do think there's not much he can screw up here unless like I already mentioned Brown manages to get himself fired, its also wrong to assume that its hard to gauge an assistant coach's impact on a team. The best example is Thibodeu.
His tenures included:
Houston
Boston
Chicago and all three teams made a giant leap in defensive rankings.
Keuster's issue in Detroit was that he couldn't maintain a working relationship with any of the veteran players. He wasn't able to communicate to Rip Hamilton effectively on why his minutes were going down even when the team is losing more.
Its all fine to play rookies on a developing team but you won't do that by undermining the senior players.

One more thing I seriously think this is the only board on this website that has a thread complaining about assistants. I know we Lakers fans have a sometimes out of control sense entitlement but this is really a stupid petty conversation. I know no one here really know who any of these assistants are. Kuester is only a topic because of a really bad situation in Detroit last season.

I think Jeff Van Gundy had a little to do with the Rockets defense also. Not saying Thibodeau is overrated but JVG is pretty good defensive coach himself.

Ummm let's see...

Carlisle's Career
281-211 (.571)
Coach of the Year award in 2002
2 NBA Championships
Multiple NBA Post Season Appearances
Thibodeau's Career
WL% (.756)
Coach of the Year award in 2011
Thibodeau's teams have advanced to the NBA postseason 14 times, including three trips to the NBA Finals.
1 NBA Championship
Multiple NBA Post Season Appearances
Architect to 2 of the NBA's most notorious defensive systems in recent years.
I'm not a GM and I've never played one on teevee either but these resume's look championship caliber to me. Just sayin'.

Well the article just said his contract expired recently. So I was thinking he was still working with the Lakers. I thought I had heard him say he was done earlier.
STILL! How in the good earth do you NOT get KAJ involved? Its early so maybe there's still hope.

How about Carlisle's and Thibideou's resume's before their current jobs. Also Thibideau was an assistant during all that playoff success you are kind of taking credit away from Rivers and JVG they were the head coaches during all those playoffs runs.

Mike Browns Resume
410-272 (.663) regular season record
42-29 (.592) playoff record
1 conference championship
2 conference finals
2 consecutive division championships
NBA's best record 2009, 2010
Advanced in playoffs every year with the Cavs
Coach of the year 2009
Cavs teams usually on top of defensive and offensive rankings.
Thats not a bad resume for a guy with only 5 seasons of head coaching experience.

I never said Brown's resume was lacking. I just doubted his ability to swoon Kobe. I just recall Brown being snubbed by LBJ.

Man all this doubt everybody has with Mike Brown and Kobe working out is pissing me off. I hope Kobe and Mike Brown shuts everybody up about all this nonsense. Seriously...LBJ is a little bia, Mike Brown didn't get himself fired, Cavs owner wanted to get rid of him. LBJ was complaining like a little bia because he couldn't come through in the clutch. So he ends up blaming the coach for his downfalls. Mike Brown is a terrific coach I feel confident that we'll have the defense we've always wanted to see from this team under Brown's directions.
Last year it was either win big or lose big. With Brown I know he can motivate our guys to comeback in blowout games and win em. Don't we want to see that big 20+ point comeback that we've barely seen last season? Common yall, we're in a good position. I mean look at the Timberwolves they're having a hard time finding a replacement coach. I think every team in the NBA that has a open head coaching vacancy would of called Brown up and hired him on the spot.
And those of you that wanted Adelman..well he hasn't found a job yet lol.

EL SEGUNDO – The Los Angeles Lakers have hired Chuck Person and Quin Snyder to serve as assistant coaches, it was announced today by Lakers General Manager Mitch Kupchak.
After spending the last two years working with the Lakers organization, Person will remain with the team serving as an assistant coach under Head Coach Mike Brown. Person, who spent the 2009-2010 season assisting Phil Jackson and his staff during their championship run, was hired on as an assistant coach at the start of the 2010-11 season.
“I’m very pleased to add Chuck to my coaching staff,” said Lakers Head Coach Mike Brown. “I’ve seen firsthand his dedication and his desire to making the players he coaches better. The knowledge of the game that he has from his experience, both as a coach and as a former NBA player, is an invaluable asset that he brings to the team and I look forward to working with him once again.”
“With the addition of Quin to my coaching staff, we’ve added someone who has an extremely intelligent basketball mind,” said Lakers Head Coach Mike Brown. “Quin’s most valuable asset, however, is his passion for coaching and his ability to get the most out of the players he coaches. I’m extremely pleased to have him on my staff.”
“I am grateful to Mike Brown and the entire Lakers organization for providing me with this opportunity,” said Snyder. “I’m looking forward to fulfilling whatever role I’m asked to assume. I could not be more excited to have this unique opportunity.”

It's time to see what Messina and the rest of the coach staff are made of!

But people here agree that LBJ was way out of his line with everything he did in Cleveland. He ran the Cavs because he was bigger than the Cavs.

Ever read Lakersground? They have a mega thread on assistants.
Lakers fans are worried about who the assistants are because Mike Brown is more of a manger than a coach that draws plays. He was seldom in huddles during his tenure in Cleveland so a lot depends on the guys who draw the plays.
