Why are some members on this board not including Marcus Thornton for the future.
He Is a deadly shooter and creates his own shot better then anyone except Tyreke on the kings.

As you see the coach trusted him not Evans with the ball in his hand at the end of games and he came through nearly every time for the kings last season.
I think like some people on this board that he is the future 2 guard for the kings.
He's too good to be a sixth man I think we all should acknowledge that. Jimmer i think will be a very good role player - sixth man a Jason Terry like ceiling which isn't bad seeing that he is a sixth man of the year award winner and killed my team in game 6 of the finals to secure the series.
But lets get real Marcus is a big part of the kings future and his ceiling is more of a Ray Allen im not saying he has Ray's stroke but i think scoring and impact wise his ceiling is comparable to Ray back in his Seattle days.

Marcus Thorton was stone cold last season. The only problem is he didn't play a full season with us. And many of the games that he did play for us were with out Evans. Another thing is that he knew he was goint to be a free agent the next season so he knew he had to play at a high level if he wanted to land a nice contract with a nice team.

^ The above is why there might be some hesitation to call him "part of the future"

First he will have to prove that he can do what he did last season over the course of a full season.. on a consistant basis... And hopefully he puts in the time during the off season to improve his skills... I think him + Evans would be great training partners... I think thorton could use a little more of evans defense... and Evans can use a LOT more of Thortons outside shot... Hopefully they can help each other grow...

With all that said - I like Thorton .. he is a perfect fit.. clutch shot and his defense was very good - infact i was surprised at how good his defense was compared to what many people were saying it would be.. When he came to us mid season... I heard " He can score .. but he is a liability on the defensive end" ... which turned out to be NOT true.

Not sure what you're talking about. They extended him the QO, and everyone expects him to get re-signed once this lockout is resolved and we have a new CBA. He is likely to be a very important piece for the team moving forward. The only question is how all these guards will end up fitting together in terms of who starts and who comes off the bench.

Starting lineup SHOULD be: Evans, Thornton, Salmons, Hickson, Cousins. With Fredette being the main "spark" off the bench along with Thompson

Regardless of all of that, most have Thornton starting right now. I had him coming off the bench in scenarios where we got a real PG, but the plan was always for him to get starters minutes.

i think evans is best with the ball in his hands so he should play pg because he also sets up teammates
"The idea that bringing a guy off the bench is a demotion is....well I was going to say outdated" actually its not outdated what is outdated and if not is getting really old and i guarantee you the players don't like is having you 3rd best player coming off the bench manu was a starter last year and he was super successful along with the team even though tim wasn't able to contribute like he used too. Oj mayo came off the bench and had his worst year of his short career when players are about to explode and become something special you don't put them on the bench it never works. veterans you can do that with because they have more understanding and have figured out what there niche is young players are still trying to figure it out restricting them is just wrong!

There are a lot of opinions here and most of them are correct. As of right now, I'm still unsure if Tyreke is a PG or SG. He needs to take his game to the next level and look to set up his teammates more, rather than looking to them in bailout situations with the clock running down.

Thornton proved last year that he was able to handle the role of PG, and did pretty well running plays for DMC and others. The question is whether Thornton is more valuable playing off the ball as a starter or the #1 scoring option coming off the bench a la Ginobli?

Thorton definately belongs in the league, maybe as a starter or scoring bench player, but definately belongs. I cant understand why the Hornets hated him so much, he won us a few games through the year when we played, and then suddenly he'd be benched again....

Sacramento would be wise to resign him IMO, atleast sign and trade if thats possible? but hes too good an asset to let go of for nothing.

I'm gonna have to agree with you there, bro. Lately I've noticed a few people creating roster's in-which they have Thornton coming off the bench, and Jimmer staring. That's a bit absurd - IMO.

However, let's not be contentious here. I'm pretty sure every Kings fan on this board will agree with me, that Thornton is a signifiant piece to this teams future.

Thornton will be starter this upcoming season.

What? He played great off the bench for us . That's how he played his way into the starting lineup. He had one good game, one bad games, and then two great games.

If you're referring to his play in NO last year, I don't think that's a fair judgment. The problem wasn't the fact that he was coming off the bench. It's that the coach hated him in general, didn't really want to play him, and limited his minutes. It's not comparable to a main 6th man role.

But you do kind of have to go with it in totality. Circumstances may have been as such, it just depends on what you expect out of him off the bench and it also depends on what kind of minutes he gets, my argument is more about a 26-28 mpg Marcus Thornton vs. a 36-40 mpg Marcus Thornton. Also a Thornton who isn't the primary option at that position for whatever reason where their minutes are subject to other factors besides their own individual play. A bench player that plays 33+ minutes a game is a freaking starter disguised as a bench player, hahaha.

A few things here:

1. Marcus Thornton is a nice player. What his role will be appears to be very Jason Terry like. On a 24 win team nobody has a secure role

2. MT did his thing for a third of a season. While he impressed lets not give him the keys to the city yet.

3. I don't know anyone who doesn't consider him a big part of what we're going to do in the future.

Tyreke is he a 1 or 2? Is Cousins a 4 or 5? Is Thornton a starter or coming off the bench? All that is kind of irrelevant. I see a scenario for all those guys in all those positions. The best fit will determine roles.

I for one don't see Jimmer starting for a long while.
