Potential Amnesty Cuts You'd Want in P&G
There are five names I came up with when thinking which players would be amnesty cuts that would look good in P&G:
PG: Baron Davis (A Laker at heart)
SG: Gilbert Arenas
SF: Corey Magette (Kobe's boy)
PF: Rashard Lewis
C: Elton Brand (Ron and LO's childhood buddy)
I can easily see all of the above being amnesty cuts and my guess is the only teams any of them would considering signing with would be:
LAKERS
MAVS
SPURS
THUNDER
HEAT
CELTICS
BULLS
MAGIC
KNICKS
I think the above teams would want the following:
LAKERS (Baron and Brand)
MAVS (Arenas and Brand)
SPURS (Lewis and Brand)
THUNDER (Brand)
HEAT (Baron and Brand)
CELTICS (Brand)
BULLS (Magette and Brand)
MAGIC (Magette, Lewis and Brand)
KNICKS (Baron, Arenas, Magette, Lewis and Brand)
My guess is the players land as follows:
BARON DAVIS: Lakers
GILBERT ARENAS: Knicks
COREY MAGETTE: Bulls
RASHARD LEWIS: Magic
ELTON BRAND: Lakers
With Shannon Brown opting out we basically have 11 players we're keeping and one we're offering up on the trade market in Odom and our lineup looks as follows:
PG: ?/Blake/Morris
SG: Kobe/Fisher/Goudelock
SF: Artest/Barnes/Ebanks
PF: Gasol/?/Caracter
C: Bynum/?/?
Obviously if we sign Baron and slide him into the starting PG spot and Brand and slide him into the backup C spot, we do not have to trade Odom as he could slide back into our back-up PF slot, we'd be 14 deep, have the best roster in basketball and be the favorites to win the title ... this is what I'm hoping for.
Also if we can land Baron but Brand decides to sign with a team like the Heat or Spurs where he can start and get more minutes we would be foolish to trade Odom for PG or wing player like Iggy, would surely slide him back into his regular back-up PF slot and then simply sign a backup C like Kwame, Pryzbilla, etc .. we'd still have a great roster and be the Western Conference favorites even if the oddsmakers would still choose the Heat over us.
However if we cannot land Baron or Brand then we do need to consider trading Odom for a legit starting PG and hopefully another backup big. We all seem to love Iggy but he is neither a PG or big. We missed out on Felton as well so our best bet may be a trade with a team like the Magic (if we really can't get Dwight) for a Jameer Nelson and Brandon Bass, Bobcats (if Kemba is their point, Augustin will be shopped) for a D.J. Augustin and Boris Diaw, Cavs (for a Ramon Sessions and Anderson Varejo), Pacers for a George Hill or Darren Collison and a re-signed Jeff Foster, or Bucks for a Jennings and Drew Gooden.
Personally I'd love to see George Hill in P&G torrching the Sours (hahaha) though the best trade above is the Jennings trade and the best most realistic trade is probably the Bobcats one.
Baron and Brand ... you should have united with the Clippers ... come unite with the best LA team and win some titled to close out your career!

Arenas - if he's willing to look to create and not chuck a lot
Davis - if he's back into shape; don't care if he lost some touch from the 3, he's still a great slasher, orchestrator and a decent post player and defender
Lewis - we already have a glut at the PF spot but he stretches the floor with his shooting
Brand - a very quality big. though undersized, he's a good defender, strong and physical, and has great mid-range game a la Boozer and serves as a back up C for Bynum.

lol at the Knicks wanting all of them. They need all the help they can get.
Preferably B-Diddy or Lewis. But wouldn't mind Brand to solidify our big rotation.
Arenas can go planking in a shark tank.

I'd take Baron or Gilbert or even any off your list for that matter.

Um ... by signing them to contracts

These dudes who get cut with the amnesty clause are still going to be getting paid by their former employers and will be happy to take half the MLE or even the vet min to sign with a contender.
I don't think we'd have any problem signing BOTH Baron and Brand.

Brand is a big part of Philly's resurgence. I don't see him getting cut. Charlotte lacked scoring before.. they lose sjax and now you have them potentially cutting maggette who could score 20 on that team? unlikely as well. Bdiddy, Arenas, Lewis i see potential in those. If playing for a CHIP is not motivation enough i dunno what would be. I think Bdiddy would love to come back to LA and play for the Lakers and he would be a great fit though Arenas 3 pt shooting/big scoring potential is intriguing. Lewis' 3 pt shot obviously would be nice.

Lewis & Bdiddy
Lewis-stretch 4, could make Odom expendable (pretty good asset to trade)
Bdiddy-we seen what he can do when motivated, you would hope playing for him home down and home team would get him motivated, if not cut your loses, use Odom as trade bait and get a legit PG.

Awful lot to ask Davis to be motivated again. He was supposed to have done that when he returned home to Los Angeles (with the Clippers).

Baron and Lewis. Gilbert seems unlikely because Otis has a man crush on him, to the point Hedo would go first IMO.
Baron could start. Lewis could be the backup SF behind Ron, even playing the 4 with Odom at the 5 in some small ball situations to end a quarter.
As for the Lakers using the amnesty, I expect Blake to be the one to bite a bullet over Luke since his deal is longer. That happens and you get this team:
PG: Baron Davis / Derek Fisher
SG: Kobe Bryant / Matt Barnes (played guard in GSW and was learning last year)
SF: Ron Artest / Rashard Lewis (name change ain't legal yet)
PF: Pau Gasol / Lamar Odom
C: Andrew Bynum / Pau Gasol

Yeah, but at least Blake can stay healthy while Luke can't thus why Luke gets cut.

It would be Walton by a mile. Blake is at least a decent/healthy backup PG who can shoot 3s. His assist to turnover ratio is also pretty good.
Walton is an injury prone (bad back on a basketball player is never a good thing) 'tweener forward.

Walton's expiring could prove to be pretty useful next season. I'd rather amnesty Blake or Peace.

Blake even with 3 yrs left on his contract is very tradable i think. I'm personally hoping the Lakers can somehow get Sessions out of Cleveland using Blake. Also Walton is the guy to go if there is an amnesty the Lakers have 3 other guys at the same position.
GO LAKERS

The problem is that Sessions can't shoot we need a PG who can shoot the 3.
