Jose Bautista - Most All-Star Votes ever

Post#1 » by evilRyu » Sun Jul 3, 2011 5:00 pm

Congrats Jose.. just simply amazing.. this isn't the most ever for a Blue Jay, but in Major League History.. very surprised & happy to hear it.

The Toronto Blue Jays third baseman not only cracked the American League’s starting lineup at the 2011 All-Star Game, as voted in by fan balloting, he set a record for the most votes ever cast for a single player in baseball history

When everyone who votes gets 25 votes, the Canadian media gets behind it and even Yankee fans are voting Jose then it's pretty much a perfect storm.

Congrats Jose you really earned it.

The fact that it's been an awful year for veteran AL OF helps too. Just no way for the average fan to justify the Crawfords, Ichiros and Hunters this year with their stats. And Matt Joyce and Carlos Quentin don't have enough name recognition.

You don't accomplish this with just Canadians voting. He had support from baseball fans everywhere, particularly in the US.

He's the biggest star in baseball right now and he deserves every bit of the attention.

I hope this shows athletes everywhere that it doesn't matter where you play. If you perform, you will be recognized. *cough*Bosh*cough*

I don't want to be too much of a downer here, but as we tend to compare things to averages and expected values - I wonder how many votes were cast above the norm?

The reason I ask is because even Curtis Granderson in 2nd overall beat Griffey's old record by more than half a million votes.

I'd suspect the internet has something to do with it.

Still, relative to his peers this year, Beastista crushed them like his moonshot off the ol' Restaurant. Now to get another (Romero, Lind, JPA) to join him!

Well, Bosh did get recognized plenty. He was a 5 time All Star with the Raptors.

I think he means getting voted in. I don't think Bosh was ever voted in as a started. He did start one year because KG was injured.

No need to talk about that attention-seeking, excuse-making, no-defense playing, soft choker here. This thread is for the best player in baseball.

I meant recognized by the fans. Bosh wasn't ever voted in by the fans.

Bautista got lots of Canadian votes that's for sure. But he also got most of the votes in the AL East (Boston & New York) because they actually do respect Bautista. I'd wager he got a good chunk of the NL voters too.

The Canadian vote stuffing got him the record but he would have got there anyways.

He is the best player in baseball right now so he deserves it. Just stay the hell away from the home run derby, Jose!

Of course he is right now. Who else is even close? Kessel? DeRozan? Nahh.
