Lester: Lakers are throwing employees out in the cold

Post#1 » by Kilroy » Sun Jul 3, 2011 4:43 am

It sounds like Ronnie Lester's termination was a lot more acrimonious than I thought...
I'm trying hard not to fall into the "Jim Buss is Sending a Message and He's an Idiot" trap, but it's getting harder and harder to see the bright side.

Lester expressed disappointment on how the Lakers are handling the situation:

“It’s awful funny that the Lakers, one of the highest grossing teams in the league, could do this to their employees, just throw them out in the cold,” Lester said.

It seems all that Lester is asking for is an explanation, and to treat loyal employees with respect:

“The Lakers have not done a good job in communicating that to anybody whose contract has ended,” he said. “Obviously the Lakers don’t want these guys back, don’t want the scouts back, or they would’ve said something in that regard. So I don’t think anybody is coming back. They’ve not treated people well in that regard.” Lester said.

and did you guys think a X employee would have nice things to say? I just think he is pissed off.
How's this for an almost unbelievable Laker trivia: The Lakers will miss the playoffs this year for the 3rd time since 1976.
Just 3 times in almost 40 years!!!!

Guys we just have to appect the fact that Jim will be run this team in the futue because Jerry is not living forever, and he will not sell the team to a stranger.

**** that. You don't need to respect a guy just because he owns your favorite team. Jim Buss is a douche from the whirlwind of unfavorable news I've read about him from the last few months. If he continues being a jerk and giving off the same vibe, he'll be hated like Sterling is with Clippers fans.

Didn't read the article, but is this instead of paying them to do nothing during the lock out?

The miami heat layed off their entire season ticket sales division when they sold out after the decision last summer and no one seemed to care.

Hoping Jeannie can talk some sense into Dr. Buss before it's too late. I heard someone called Jim Buss the second coming of James Dolan. Starting to think maybe Jeannie should be running this team.

Jeannie got her own problems to deal with she don't have time for this.

Exactly. It seems like all negative things are assigned to him. It's on Mitch and the doc as well.

I think people are worried that it's Jim Buss's doing because there were hints that Jerry is leaving the team's basketball operation to his hands and that he's semi-retired. Considering what we have heard about Jim Buss in the past it's no surprise we assume he was the one that messed up. It just seems all too strange for a well run team like the Lakers to have such a lack of communication between them and the employees.

I was worried when Magic sold his ownership. Its seems like the organizaiton is trying to distance itself from its past. Which is weird.

Magic sold off his ownership interest as well as a bunch of other business interest to raise capital. Obviously Magic had other plans that he needed to proceed with.

Dr. Buss is getting old and is probably getting tired of running day to day operations.

I dont how these are evidence of the lakers trying to distance itself from the past. Not like Magic was kicked out and Dr. Buss impeached as owner.

I think Magic was looking to make a bid for the pistons.

Magic Johnson wants to bring an NFL team back to L.A.

With Magic Johnson dumping his stake in the Los Angeles Lakers, he’d now like to use that money to buy an NFL team. Or at least part of one.

And he’d like to bring the team to L.A.

“Would I be interested? Of course I would be interested,” Johnson told Broderick Turner of the Los Angeles Times, via USA Today. “Have I talked to anybody about it? No. But I would love . . . I
would do that in two seconds.”

Johnson owned 4.5 percent of the Lakers, for an estimated $27 million. He also reportedly sold Starbucks franchises back to the company for $75 million.

Still, $100 million would get him only 10 percent of an NFL team.

Currently, a couple of stadium projects are being explored in Los Angeles. Ed Roski’s group is poised the build a stadium in City of Industry, once a team is lined up to play there. A stadium in downtown L.A. near Staples Center also is a possibility.

It would be fitting if Johnson would be part of a Vikings team that would move to L.A., given that his Lakers moved to Los Angeles from Minneapolis.
