How Did You Guys Feel About Kobe's Comments...

Post#1 » by bmajorcotg » Sun Jul 3, 2011 10:36 pm

His comments after the Lakers lost Game 1 to The Mavs 96-94.

When asked if his 29 shots messed up the balance in the Lakers offense, Kobe said:

"It ain't got nothing to do with me... I'ma do what I do. I think the second unit and that crew gotta make a conscious effort to get the ball into Pau and get the ball into Andrew. I've had games where I shot the ball 10 times and Pau and Andrew didn't contribute that much. I've had games where I shot the ball 30 times and they've had big games. It ain't have nothing to do with my shots."

another fact is that the Lakers are 10-16 in the last four regular seasons when Kobe takes 30-plus shots.

I'm surprised this got swept under the rug because to me it seemed like he wasn't being accountable. What are your thoughts?

Not so much "not accountable" and "cocky" to me. He knows he takes the hit for losses regardless as the star. But regardless of his shots, the effort itself was missing from other Lakers' games. Pau looked uninterested. A lot of lazy defense. To me that just says that its not a question of the shots, there are bigger problems.

revisionist history much?
do you even remember the game?
think of the 81 point game and what a bastard we all would have thought he was if the Lakers lose that game. the point is that Kobe is gonna do what Kobe does when his team mates are not delivering. is it right? no, but if we are going to criticize him when the Lakers lose (jacking shots) then let's criticize him for doing the same thing when the Lakers win.

+1

On the flip side, the media criticizes Lebron for the low amount of shots he takes when the game is on the line.

Sometimes Kobe is put in no win situations & this is one of them. If you remember we threw that game away & Kobe was totally within the offense all game long. Pau didn't really ever find it & the stopped going to Drew. That's where that particular game was really lost.

If you were ever as successful as Kobe has been in his profession, would you ever honestly feel that you were ever a black hole on your team in any game?

Shots weren't the problem. The defense was horrendous.

how about the fact that lakers lost 3 more games in the series with kobe only taking 18 shots in those games?
kobe not being aggressive hurts more than it helps.
heck i was expecting 30+shots in the last game of the series with the hopes of 'he either shoots us in or shoots us out thats the only fitting end to the dynasty'

Yep!

I was actually hoping for Kobe to go off. I WANTED him to shoot us back in that last game. I wanted him to go out guns blazing. It was kinda anti-climatic. :-?

i believe pau deserved the mvp award in the 2010 finals vs celtics, but i also believe pau deserves about 75% blame on the playoff flop in 2011.

this is professional sports, don't you for a second think jackson doesn't know what he's doing and how it affects the teams' flow when he gives kobe 30 shots. those people made a science of their offense and when kobe shoots it 30 times he is completely right, it doesn't affect the team that much. his 30 shots don't mean he went through isolation plays 30 times.

I'll disagree

Pau was very very good in the 2010 Finals, but Kobe was clearly a level above him. I mean come on, he averaged 8 rebounds per game, thats how much he can step up his game if everything is on the line. Also his overall stats were better if you dont give much on win shares (I dont). And if you want to say Kobe choked in Game 7, well Pau did too, but both rebounded extremely well.

Gasol was atrocious in the 2011 Playoffs, he didnt play like a starting caliber Forward, let alone Allstar, but we lost the Playoffs because of poor execution on the defensive end and Pau never was a defensive anchor for us like KG for the Celtics. Defense is a Team effort and everone on the Roster failed (Bynum did his part, but Kobe also defended horribly)

It was a big deal. Some of the ESPN parrots were screaming at kobe but later on game 4 they wanted him to shoot 50 times. LOL.

I'll copy and paste it, watch the video.:

DrewBynum77 wrote:

During Dallas' 17-4 run Kobe shot only TWO TIMES. He made one and missed the second. He fed Bynum inside to get our other bucket during dallas' run.

When Lakers still had a 8 point lead we fed Marc's sister 3 times in a row.

- First time he grabbed the ball way outside where he should be (thats what irritates me the most about Gasol, btw. Not working for the position) and committed a turnover
- then tried to get an assist with a lousy pass for artest. Another turnover.
- then he caught the ball in a good position but kicked it back to Kobe to get an assist on a contested 3-pointer. Kobe dribbled and gave Artest a wide open 3-pointer with time to even do the math about the shot. He missed (that's what he does best.

Oh, but he doesn't create for others, yeh I know...

Btw, for gods sake, look at the way he defended Kidd's PnR with Nowitzki @0:40. That was disgusting. He was in slow mo there. Didn't stop Kidd nor rotated back to at least pretend to bother Dirk's shot.

So yeh, during dallas kobe shot twice, scored once. He also fed bynum on the post and he worked to get his basket on the paint. And we Fed gasol but he didn't want to shoot and didn't fought for the position.

But Kobe wouldn't let us lose that way. He tried to bail lakers out after Phil FINALLY took a time out (he let we lose a 16 points lead before calling a timeout ffs!)

Here's the rest of the 3rd quarter after our lead ended:

But the bspn parrots wanted him to feed gasoft, lol.

Until the game 3 happened and Phil embarrassed marc's sister in front of the whole world then the parrots stopped their stupid theories that Kobe cost us the series.

Wait, so the game that Kobe takes the most shot is the one with the smallest margin of victory? But I thought the Lakers have a better chance of winning when he takes less than 20 shots? Mind = blown.

btw, people talking about Defense, kobe had 3 great defensive possessions in that video (contested brewer, blocked marion and ran back to stop terry's layup after he missed a 3) Kobe gave all he had in that 3rd to give us the win but our other stars failed to show up. Including the guy on my screenname, marc's sister and karkashian's husband.

The second unit was garbage, what Kobe was saying was they were not going to win with Steve Blake playing scared.

Those can't be Kobe's words. He's got a better grasp of the English language than that.

"ain't have"

"ima"
